Gucci Makeup First Impressions Round 1: Foundation, Lipstick and Lip Gloss!

Marvelous news, dear readers…my first Gucci order arrived today and I rushed out into the setting sun to take a copious amount of pictures, thereby enabling me to share them here at Beauty Professor ASAP!  After whittling my desires from this decadent new line down (currently available at Neiman Marcus and Gucci.com) to a manageable list (discussed HERE and HERE), I counted down the days until said items were delivered. Despite the fact that the sun was on the cusp of retiring for the evening, I managed to capture the essence of these incredible products and also included comparison swatches since the foundation has, up to this point, been an enigma of sorts on the Internet.  I will continue test these products and offer a more comprehensive review in the coming days.  In the meanwhile, I hope the following images will be of great use to those of you ordering online!
Kindly scroll on for more details, images, swatches and the Bottom Line…

The Gucci Face Lustrous Glow Foundation in shade #50 and #60: This formula comes in a gorgeous frosted glass bottle with a pump dispenser.  It appears to offer medium coverage and has a satin-matte finish that makes the skin look naturally perfected.  The wear time appears substantial (though I only have had the chance to wear it for the past 6 hours and now I will be headed to bed) without any obvious oil breakthrough or migrating.  Shade 050 is a NC 25 shade for light skin with a yellow undertone and Shade 060 is a touch warmer (leaning golden) and deeper…more like an NC 27.  I have applied the 060 alone to my in the images below (a currently perfect match) and made sure not to set it with powder for the most accurate representation! So far, I think this is a very lovely medium coverage option and I will weigh on this formula again after additional trial.

Next up, the Audacious Lipstick in Whisper.  I am totally smitten with this soft and creamy violet pink.  Full coverage, smooth texture and magnficent hydration (much like that of the Tom Ford…reviewed HERE).  Closeup soon!  I also ordered the Luxurious Lipstick in Cipria (in stock at Gucci only as of publish date) is a peachy pink nude…will update when that arrives.  Cannot wait!

Last is the Vibrant Demi-Glaze Lip Lacquer in Breathless…Available at Gucci and Neiman Marcus  this pinky nude beige is silky, smooth, only slightly sticky (as to stay in the lip lines), wears beautifully alone or over lip color (as I have done by combining it with Whisper in the images below) and is all around a quintessential “must have” shade for nude lip lovers.  Full profile of this shade soon!

The images below reflect my application of the Gucci Face Foundation in 060 (buffed on with a Beauty Blender) and a bit of Charlotte Tilbury First Love blush…I am also wearing Jouer Galaxy Long-Wear Creme Mousse Eyeshadow (full review this weekend!) all over the lids and Gucci Whisper and Breathless on the lips. No powder…no photo-editing and only natural light (except when a flash is used…which is stated).

Bottom Line: I am completely in love with the Gucci makeup products (currently available at Neiman Marcus and Gucci.com) I have received thus far and look forward to playing with them more over the weekend…my initial impressions confirm that they are utterly stunning.  As aforementioned, I will be doing closeup profiles of each item in the coming days but wanted to give you an immediate experience with the line this minute…I hope you enjoyed this post and found it to be helpful!  I welcome your questions and comments (which, along with your lovely emails, I’ll be attending to this weekend) and hope you have a magnificent Friday!

Thanks for showing me the swatches! I hesitated buying the foundation because I want to see it in-store. However, I did order couple of lipsticks, lip gloss and eyeshadow palette. The packaging is luxe and I can't wait to try the lipsticks… I just need to take photos first, lol! You look fabulous as always.

Love this review, thank you for doing it. Now for the two big questions; if you are attending an outside daytime event, lasting at least 4 hours, what foundation would you wear? And, if you are attending an inside daytime event, lasting at least 4 hours, what foundation would you wear? I'm asking this because I do not live near a department store and need to narrow down my foundation search when I make my annual trek to the big city of Boston for my cosmetic indulgence. I want to check out three foundations and cannot decide which three to look at. Thank you!

      Thank you, Dancepig!

Ahh…that is a challenging question. For a long day outside, I would wear the TF Traceless Perfecting…it stays looking flawless (even in extreme weather) the longest!

For inside, I love the CdP Radiant and this Gucci version is fast becoming a favorite…will have to try it for a few more days before I wholly commit though ; )

      Hope that helps…xx,

I'm surprised you didn't mention the strong fragrance of the lipsticks. Some have even complained of a soapy taste. I did get the strong perfume fragrance but not the soapy taste. I purchased Cipria and Ethereal. Both are beautiful nudes. They are moisturizing and very lovely.

I have noticed the fragrance, Jan, but have not found it offensive. In fact, I rather like it and I haven't experienced any discernable taste. Can't wait for Cipria to arrive!

      Hi Cathy!

Thank you so much. I am very impressed with the Gucci but need to try it longer before I can say it's as amazing as I think it is…in response to your question, I am loving the TF Traceless Perfecting and the Cle de Peau Radiant Fluid to cover large pores and make skin look super even!

Hi B.P, how great of you to rush this post for us as soon as it arrived. First let me say you look stunning. Because of your swatches, I have to have this because I love my Cle de peau and as you mentioned, it is very similar in texture. But shade 30 is great for me in Cdp but in Gucci seems different. I will decide. The lipstick is beautiful. Can't wait to see cipria. Still waiting for C.Tilbury foundation but received the magic cream. Put it on tonite . Very soft skin. Will see how it does tmrw when I put that on along with wonderglow. Thnx so much. Gotta order this gucci luminous dream! Haha

      Hi Lynn,

Thank you, my friend! I think that you will like this formula…it is similar to the CdP but somehow looks different (though very good) on the skin! I'll be interested to hear how you think it compares!

I am hoping that Cipria arrives tomorrow (along with my CT Magic Cream). Glad to know the Magic Cream renders soft skin…can't wait to try it ; )

I hope you have a beautiful weekend…let me know what shade in the Gucci you end up settling on…xx,

    Hi Beauty Professor…
Thank you for your review 😉 have you swatched the remainder of the Gucci Foundation Swatches yet? Also. Any recommendation on Gucci lipsticks…I am looking for a shade Similar to Armani 504 Flesh?

    October 5, 2014 at 3:51 pm
    • The Beauty Professor Reply

My pleasure! I will be swatching the rest of the Gucci foundation shades soon….with regards to the lipstick, Cipria is a slightly paler and peachier version of Flesh (equally creamy and opaque but not as pink).

      Hope that helps!

I was going to ask about the fragrance but Jan K answered that. I love the lip colors but I won't buy them if they are fragranced. I have to keep away from other great brands too because of that. I'll anxiously await your other reviews though.

      Hi Marcia,

Lovely to hear from you! Yes, there is fragrance in the lipstick but I do't find it cloying or annoying at all. That being said, if you don't want any fragrance in your lipstick, then these won't be for you ; )

      xoxo and talk soon,

Just came across your blog when I search Gucci makeup. Love your reviews and swatches. It really helps! I want to try the foundation so bad. I am NC25 and I'm Asian with yellow undertone. Your swatches of the shades 050 and 060 are almost the same, what do you think should I get? I am planning to order it online because it's cheaper than the prices at the stores near me. Thanks and hoping for your response. Have a nice day!

      Hi Zai,

Thanks for your kind comment! I would recommend the 060 for NC 25 skin…to me it feels like 050 is probably closer to NC 23 or so. I hope that helps!
