Christian Louboutin Lip Color: My Three Choices + 3 Other Beauty Discoveries

Above: The Christian Louboutin lip color comes in an ornate gold case on a ribbon, making it just as apropos for a necklace as a lipstick.
Christian Louboutin’s iconic, red-soled luxury now has extended into the lipstick realm.  After the release of perhaps the most stunningly lethal nail polish known to man last year (reviewed HERE) this latest development has beauty lovers ready to devote a significant sum to procure these undeniably opulent gems.  Currently available at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Sephora, Saks and Bergdorf Goodman, I chose three shades, sight unseen, and am excited to share them (as well as three other key beauty discoveries) in this post!
Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches and images of the products in action as well as the Bottom Line…
Above (from L-R): Louboutin Bikini, Tutulle and Me Nude.
Although the lipcolor comes in three formulas (satin, matte and sheer) and a spectrum of shades, I embraced my penchant for creamy, opaque, pinky nude lips and opted for befitting hues in the satin formula.
I would imagine that the question on everyone’s mind is if this lipstick is truly exquiste enough to justify the unprecedented price tag.  The truth, dear readers, is a tough one…from a fiscal perspective, I wish I could say that you should save your money because this formula is mediocre, but, in fact, the opposite is true.
The packaging itself is breathtaking.  From the chic keepsake box to the weighty golden case fit for royalty, every detail has been considered.  Additionally, the lipstick comes laced on a silk ribbon, making it an incredible accessory to boot.  While I appreciate unique packaging as much as the next person, when it comes to makeup, the formula must be effective or I am not compelled to offer endorsement.
That being said, the Silky Satin formula (which, as aforementioned, is the only one I can speak to) is absolutely divine…pigmented and smooth with beautiful performance, this lipstick is love at first swatch.  The texture is creamy, gliding over lips with just enough slip to be comfortable but not too much as to make one question the lasting power.  The fragrance is slightly floral (but nominal) and I don’t detect any taste whatsoever.  I get 4-6 hours of touchup-free wear and my perennially-dry lips stay hydrated and comfortable the entire time.
All in all, I am blissfully happy with my purchases…yes, it was an investment-level endeavor, but when I think about how many lipsticks I may buy and, ultimately, not wear regulary, then less than $300 dollars spent on three stellar shades that will get a lot of wear time is not as insane as it sounds!

Onto the three shades I selected…

Above: Bikini.
(1) The Silky Satin Lipstick in Bikini is a resplendent baby pink with no shimmer and a demure shine.  It is creamy and opaque, expertly walking the line between pigmented and soft.  As an unapologetic pink lover, this is sublime.

(2) The Silky Satin Lipstick in Tutulle is a gorgeous pale pinky beige with a soft shine.  It is the perfect blend of light rose, peach and beige for a classic 1960’s nude lip effect that is muted but still full of life.  Absolutely brilliant!

(3) The Silky Satin lipstick in Me Nude: I was initially concerned that Me Nude would be too close in tone to Tutelle and one may be compelled to further this assumption when looking at the bullets side by side.  I am, however, pleased to confirm that they are distinct enough for both to be a wise purchase for nude lip lovers.  It is a mid-toned beige, slightly warmer and more brown than Tutulle…excellent for a subtle take on the 1990’s nude lip resurgence.

Bottom Line: I wish I could say that this lipstick is lovely but not worth it; my experience, however, completely defies this desire since the Christian Louboutin lip color (also available at Neiman MarcusSephora, Saks and Bergdorf Goodman) is one of the most exceptional formulas I have ever encountered.  If you are looking to treat yourself, have a birthday or anniversary coming up where a stunning gift is in order or simply have an unabashed adoration for the very best in lip color, then I implore to consider trying this formula…I, for one, have no regrets.
Will YOU be trying the Christian Louboutin lip color?  Which shades catch your eye?
Good things ahead, including more fall collection overviews, fresh product procurements and a new skincare intensive…I hope your weekend is off to a marvelous start!

NO!!!! Was totally hoping you were going to say it wasn't worth the money. LOL, I'm still trying to wrap my brain around it. As always you look fabulous. Is that a new Estee Lauder foundation?

Yes, the Estee Lauder foundation is new in this format but it also comes in a bottle…it works really well in heat and humidity ; )

Thank you for the review, how would you say me nude compares to TF sable smoke, or other similar shades such as CT Hepburn Honey or Estée Lauder Discreet?

    September 7, 2015 at 10:38 pm
    • The Beauty Professor Reply

Thanks, Deb!! I find that Me Nude is more neutral to TF Sable Smoke (but of similar depth) and a touch darker than EL Discreet.

      Hope that helps!

Hi B.P great post for us beauty junkies. Today at the salon 1 of my clients brought in her 2 matte shades and 1 lipliner. I got to try and loved! Unfortunately! Beautiful and heavy packaging, feels good the way it sits in the hand also! ! The liner seems dry and waterproof which is good for longevity. Love your swatches and can't decide between the 2 nudes. Xo
