FOTD: New Year's Day...Home and Loving It

Above: Products for a new year.
On New Year's Day, in an attempt to embrace renewal and subtlety, suitable for a mellow time at home, I employed the use of four brilliantly simple products.  I started with the Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask; after 30 minutes of comfortable wear, the pink clay and witch hazel-infused organic treatment leaves my skin feeling extra smooth and truly glowing.  It is gentle yet entirely effective!  I then applied a single pump of the Orlane B21 Extraordinaire (mentioned in my most recent video HERE), a recently-released anti-aging serum that reduces fine lines and uneven tone while simultaneously hydrating and firming through the use of 21 essential Amino Acids.  I love how silky this feels when applied and I have definitely noticed that my skin is softer and more refined and my pores are less visible over the last couple weeks of using this intermittently.  I followed the Orlane with a couple of pumps of the divine By Terry Densiliss Foundation in #7 (swatched HERE); this luxurious formula fights aging and cloaks skin in a velvet matte finish that diminishes imperfections and lasts for hours.  Truly a foundation indulgence!  Finally, for lips, I mixed my newly acquired YSL Glossy Stain #108 Violine Out of Control (from the Rebel Nudes Collection) with a single coat of my all time favorite pinky nude Tom Ford Nude Vanille (reviewed here) to achieve a pale, slightly glossy lilac look.

Above: My pared-down New Year's Day look in different lighting situations (shade and direct sunlight through a window)...glowy skin, even canvas, pale lip...nothing else!
I chose to leave my eyes devoid of all cosmetics, save for a bit of brow powder for definition (one of the perks of being home all day!) and indulged in what I might deem to be one of the most ambrosial food combinations in all the land...Brie cheese and Ritz crackers.  There perhaps may be no better way in which to commence the new year...

Above: The most beautiful of all...a closeup of the Brie and Ritz in all of their glory.
Bottom Line: Sometimes the best place possible to be is home!  I hope you enjoyed this simple FOTD and would love to know what skincare and makeup items are a must for YOU when you are at home...please share!

Good things coming up next week...xoxo,

  1. I really want to try the Tata Harper mask! How frequently do you use it? And would you recommend it for all ages? My at home face is mascara (always!!) and, as of recently, Chanel's Le Blanc de Chanel illuminating base and maybe some blush - MAC's Cremeblend in Ladyblush or Rouge Bunny Rouge's Blush Wand in Titian.
I have a couple of questions about RBR mascaras - which gives you the most volume? And how hard are they to remove?

    1. Hello Georgie!

Thanks for your question...I've been using the Tata Harper Mask once or twice a week and think it is great for all ages as it is gentle yet effective! Thanks so much for sharing your "at home face" necessities...love it!

In terms of RBR mascaras, I find that the Megaplumes gives the most volume and they are very easy to remove with typical makeup remover or even soap!

  2. Wow Rachel, I'm impressed! Your commitment to beauty is something to behold. I am far too lazy to bother with any makeup on a day at home when I'm sure I won't be leaving the house. I do however use those days to try out new skincare. I seem to have so many samples; like most of us I accumulate those with GWP and samples from online orders. I truly love the feeling of having not a single makeup product on my face even though I am a makeup junkie. Plus, I've always had this weird thing that I think my skin can't really breathe properly when it's covered in makeup. I know that sounds funny because I'm covering it in skincare products, but we've got to test those samples sometimes, right? You have far more discipline than me :)

    1. Hello Deb,

Hope you had a great weekend! Thanks for the kind words and your details about your "at home" beauty regimen. Sometimes, like this very moment as I type this, I prefer the feeling of nothing on my skin. For example, early this afternoon, I did a Glam Glow mask (I usually alternate between GG and the TA one) and followed with some Kanebo Sensai Cream and nothing else...ahh, so wonderful!

Have a beautiful week and talk soon...xo,

  3. Hello,

I'm not really the type of person to take the time and write a comment on blogs, but I just wanted to say a BIG thank you for your posts. Due to illness I'm not really able to go out and swatch foundation shades myself, so your online swatches have helped me immensely when trying to find my perfect shade! I really can't thank you enough.

The Terrybly Densiliss is yet another foundation I'd like to add to my collection, but I'm struggling with the shades so was wondering whether you could help me. I'm incredibly pale and current using By Terry Cover Expert it 1 Fair Beige, which is slightly dark on me, but the closest match I can find. Are any of the Densiliss shades similar to this? 1 Fresh Fair looks like it's a lot darker than 2 Cream Ivory - am I right?

After watching your best of 2013 video, I now also have my eye on Suqqu Frame Fix and Sensai Cream Foundation - do you know if any of these have a shade as light as Cover Expert 1?

A big thank you from your friend across the pond ;)

    1. Hello Laura Anne,

Thank you for your lovely comment. I am so very glad that my swatches have been helpful for you...such wonderful feedback to receive! I can see what you mean about the By Terry Densiliss Fresh Fair looking a bit dark...I think because it has such a pronounced pink undertone, it depends as it dries. I would suggest #2 Cream Ivory because it does seem to be the lightest option in this formula overall!

With regards to the Suqqu, both the #101 and #001 are quite light...the whole range runs light to begin with as it caters to predominantly Asian skin tones!

I hope that helps...take care, keep in touch and have a marvelous week...xoxo,

  4. Gorgeous -- you look natural yet radiant. I love how you added definition to your brows while leaving your eyes bare. As for my list of at home makeup and skincare favorites, the list could be quite long if I were to tell you everything, but I'll mention a few items off the top of my head: Perricone MD Blue Plasma (I've been using it for 5 months and it completely changed my skin), I'm also a big fan of the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum. I'm currently loving Tatcha -- Both her Dewy Mist and Rice Enzyme Powder. Makeup related... I am in love with the By Terry Sheer Expert which my sister was able to gift me thanks to your help. I can't wear any makeup for about the next 15 days or so because I have a stye... I'm already treating it but it'll be a while :(

I've heard nothing but amazing things about it! I am so glad you are still loving the By Terry Sheer Expert...it looks beautiful on you! I hope your stye heals quickly...take care, indeed!

  6. Hello Rachel. What's your so far experience with the orlane 21 ? Is it worth that expensive price? The sa at the beautyline was very enthusiastic about the serum and its benefits but I am very sceptical about the price.

    1. Hi Tina,

Thanks for checking in...I am still loving the Orlane B21 Extraordinaire. Every time I use it at night, I wake up with clearer, smoother, more plump skin! It is definitely an investment but I can say that my experience has been undeniably positive.

      I hope that helps...xx,
