Serious About Shaving with Joy

Shaving is serious business over here.

Today’s post is dedicated to something I do daily, yet have never officially written about: shaving! It’s true, I shave my legs etc. every single day as I really appreciate the virtue of smooth skin and, despite my serious dedication, consider myself relatively low-maintenance in this category. All I need is a capable razor–in this case, the Joy Razor–and 60 seconds in the shower.
Kindly scroll on for more details on my process as well as the Bottom Line…

Serious About Shaving with Joy

I’ll never forget the day I began shaving my legs. Growing up in a small beach town in Southern California meant swimming and surfing galore as well as shorts for most of the year and by age 12, I–like most of my friends–embraced the razor with eager anticipation.
My mom was there to instruct in that first session, teaching me to use an ample amount of soap and sweep the razor upwards with gentle precision.

Reminiscing on the first time I shaved my legs.
Looking back, shaving my legs was a right of passage that felt completely grown up; equally exciting, it resulted in immediate gratification…silky smooth legs for an instant air of sophistication.

Fast forward many years to the present and, after trying seemingly every razor under the sun–from fancy $20 models to disposable .99 versions–I think I may have finally found my razor. I purchased the Joy Razor (available at Walmart) before moving in early July and have used it with great success since then.
The razors are sleek and minimalist wonders that are surprisingly affordable ($8.97!) and the five-blade configuration ensures an intensely smooth experience with no irritation aftermath. Aesthetically pleasing and effective? Yes, please!

Official details, courtesy of Walmart:

  • Five blades, which according to shaving science can help give you a comfortable shave
  • Non-slip grip handle, so you avoid dropping joy on any questionable locker room shower floors
  • Two five-blade refills included. That’s ten blades if you use math
  • Lubrastrip, which sounds pretty sci-fi, but actually it just helps avoid irritation while shaving
  • This joy razor comes in pink, which is universally bathroom flattering

// MY PROCESS //

Step 1

I start by applying a healthy dose of the Glee Cucumber Aloe Shave Gel. This formula is extremely plush and foamy, providing an ideal landscape for the shaving to come.

Step 2

I glide my Joy Razor in an upwards motion, working in sections to guarantee that no area is accidentally overlooked.

Step 3

Daily Shaver’s Tip: The five blades are extremely adept at smoothing the surface but I always like to run my hand over each section of shaved skin to check for continuity and make sure that I didn’t miss a spot!
