FOTD: Neutrals on Location + the New Nude Lip You Need

The end of August is nigh, signaling the start of a new semester of lecturing!

Despite being in the classroom this week, I am excited to share an on-location face of the day which harnesses the power of neutrals, including the freshly-launched and unmitigatedly clever *Lipstick Queen Nothing But the Nudes Lipstick, a nude lip lover's dream trifecta.

Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches and--of course--images of the products in action as well as the Bottom Line...

The Products.
Product Breakdown:
  • Tom Ford Traceless Foundation Stick in Sable (reviewed HERE): A few swipes on the face imparts natural medium coverage that simply looks like really good skin and the lasting power is divine...truly a foundation modern classic.
  • *Sisley-Paris Concealer #3 (reviewed HERE): I blended a touch of this warm beige in my undereye region to feign a more rested look than on-location experiences generally afford.
  • *Kevyn Aucoin Neo-Highlighter in Sahara (reviewed HERE): Although "highlighter" is in its moniker, I can get away with also using this utilitarian ombre palette as a bronzer. The deepest section works well in the hollows of my cheeks and perimeters of my face while the lightest section is at home on my upper cheek bones and down the bridge of my nose for a tender glow...simply brilliant.
  • *Le Metier de Beaute Creme Fresh Tint in Poppy (reviewed HERE): Just a touch on the apples of my cheeks adds lit-from-within flush in a flattering warm pink hue. My favorite Creme Fresh Tint shade to date!
  • *Giorgio Armani Eye Tints in #12 Gold Ashes and #23 Camel Smoke (reviewed HERE): I blended the darker Camel Smoke on the upper eye lids and lower lash line and then swept the incandescent Gold Ashes up toward my brow bone.
  • *By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Blonde Opal (formula reviewed HERE): I finished my eye look with the indelible pale gold Blonde Opal right below my brow bone as a final transition shade for a neutral golden eye with major radiance.
  • *Givenchy Couture Noir Mascara: Fun fact...while shooting this makeup on the boat, I slipped and this mascara flew out of my hand and into the water. Fortunately, our boat was in the shallows and my husband dove down eight feet to retrieve it...talk about a hero ; ) Back to the formula: this mascara is jet black with immense lengthening and volumizing properties...so grateful it's still in my possession!
  • *Oribe Nail Lacquer in The Nude (reviewed HERE): My most used nail polish of life, this creamy light nude epitomizes the notion of neutral..it neither leans cool nor warm and matches absolutely everything. So worth it.
  • Oribe Cote d'Azur Hair Refresher (reviewed HERE): A spritz on my hair for the addictive, transcendent peach-infused fragrance synonymous with Oribe, this travel spray also makes my hair feel fresher and fuller while on the go.

// Style Notes //
  • Michael Stars French Terry Off the Shoulder Top: I picked this top up on a whim at a small boutique and am so glad it is available online as I received many questions about its brand when I posted a picture in it earlier this month. The French terry has an excellent feel and the off the shoulder effect is demure and timeless. I want to buy this top in black, next!
  • FRAME Le High Skinny Ankle Jeans: My favorite brand of jeans ever, the fit, quality and comfort are unparalleled. I wear the Le High Skinny in a size 25.
  • Off-white booties: I got this particular pair a few years ago but found very similar options HEREHEREHERE and HERE. The color works well with my entire wardrobe and is an unexpected yet effortless option.
  • Longchamp Le Pliage Neo Mini Backpack: Ruff and tumble construction with a sophisticated edge, this backpack has been everywhere with me since June.

Beauty accoutrements from days gone by.
Relics of the past...so glad that corsets aren't a regular requirement of modern life!

Falling for Fall with New Launches from Surratt, Becca and Armani Beauty

The summer's end is imminent; in fact, this weekend is my last before heading back to the classroom next week. In honor of the changing season, I am loving mixing new Fall releases with classic favorites and today's swatch-heavy beauty story is no exception! From the latest shades from Surratt Beauty and an innovative primer to a fresh cheek combination and a just-launched juicy lip, prepare to fall for Fall.

Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches and images of the products in action as well as the Bottom Line...

Falling for fall makeup.
*Surratt Smoky Eye Batons
Up first, the *Surratt Smoky Eye Batons (also available at Spring and Net-A-Porter) now come in four new shades for infinite color combinations that yield a smoky eye apropos for both day and night.

I've been fan of this eye shadow/liner combination (discussed HERE) since the initial launch of the line (which, incidentally, ranks amongst my favorite beauty brands of all time); one one side is a creamy, color-saturated eyeliner that works well around the perimeter of the eye and the other is a coordinating pigmented eyeshadow that blends with the liner to intensify the color scheme for a smoky look that is infinitely flattering. The new shades include warm neutrals and cool metallics that define and brighten the eye in a sophisticate manner. Truly exquisite! Keep reading for my three favorite and how I like to apply them...

No details have been spared...even the end of the baton has a lovely translucent colored disc to showcase the shade inside.
Official details, courtesy of Sephora:

What it is:
A double-sided pencil with creamy eyeliner and matching eyeshadow to create an edgy ombré look.

What it does:
Create smoky eyes this elegant, all-in-one Eye Baton. One end is a twist-up mechanical eye pencil for defining the lash line, and just untwist the cap on the other end for easy-to-diffuse eyeshadow that smolders—without a mess or fallout.

What else you need to know:
Retract the cream liner before replacing the cap to avoid breakage. Surratt Beauty is dedicated to the Japanese tradition of minimal elegance; the space-saving packaging is designed to be lightweight and secure, and is recyclable.

"The modern smoky eye is how a French girl would wear it—a bit lived in, with pigment tight along the inner rim and perimeter of the upper lash line."—Troy Surratt, Celebrity Makeup Artist and Founder of Surratt Beauty

The *Surratt Smoky Eye Batons (also available at Spring and Net-A-Porter) shades are as follows:
  • Canons de Beaute: Rich burgundy
  • Cendres: Glimmering Taupe
  • Etincelle: Lush copper
  • Fumee Brun: True brown
  • Fumee Noir: Intense black
  • Nuit Dorage: Blue-tinged black
  • Partir En Fumee: Effervescent silver-meets-platinum
  • Vapeur Mauve: Purple mauve

A perfect pair: The *Becca Velvet Blurring Primer Perfecting Base + *Becca Ultimate Coverage Foundation in Olive,
Next, designed to hydrate, smooth and brighten one's canvas prior to foundation application, the *Becca Velvet Blurring Primer Perfecting Base is a brilliant way to perfect the skin. The delicate apricot tone creates a soft velvet matte finish that reduces unwanted shine while still letting skin reflect true skin finish. It's an intriguing thin and lightweight formula that disappears into skin on contact while, somehow, taking one's face to the next level. In sum, it must be tried to be understood!

I am loving the way *Becca Velvet Blurring Primer Perfecting Base subtly brightens without the usage of obvious shimmer and, when combined with the medium-to-full coverage *Becca Ultimate Coverage Foundation in Olive (an insanely good match for my current skin tone...not new, but new to me), it guarantees that my base lasts the entire day, even in hot and humid end of August weather. I have been embracing this duo all week and am thrilled with the outcome.

The *Giorgio Armani Ecstasy Shine Lipstick press mailing.
I recently received the most gorgeous press mailing featuring the *Giorgio Armani Ecstasy Shine Lipstick (also available at Neiman Marcus). Housed in a vivid red tube with a satisfying magnetic closure, this new formula is a stunning wash of cellophane color boasting the hydration of a balm and the shine of a gloss. Buttery and smooth, the lip color feels sensational on the lips and provides magnificent color payoff (especially for a sheer formula) and significant lasting power.

This forgivingly fuss-free formula can be applied on the go (sans mirror), resulting in effortlessly juicy lips in Fall's greatest hues. I am most in love with the fresh nude #100, the candy pink #500 and the rich aubergine #602....keep reading for swatches!

The red case and magnetic closure is a stylistic achievement, resonate with the Armani aesthetic.

  • Ragdoll LA Vintage Tee in Bone White: A new favorite in my style routine, this buttery smooth cotton tee is the perfect off white; seriously considering a backup as I've already worn it 3 times since purchasing last week! In my opinion, no one makes cotton crew neck tees better than Ragdoll
