First Look: 3 New Beauty Products You Need to See

Above: Looking ahead to this new year with inquisitive anticipation.
Happy New Year, lovelies; I hope your first day of 2016 was a marvelous one! To get the next 366 days of the year started, I am excited to share a look at three new beauty products–two of which launched mere days ago–for next-level eyes, complexion and lips.
Kindly scroll on for more details, images and swatches as well as the Bottom Line…

Above: Troy Surratt in his element.
The first product has a backstory; my love for all things Surratt Beauty is no secret here at Beauty Professor (reviews HERE, HERE and HERE, to start) and when I was in NYC in November, I had the sublime opportunity to visit Surratt Beauty headquarters.

Above: Troy Surratt and BP in beauty heaven.
This auspicious experience allowed me to preview a few key future Surratt Beauty launches, one of which, is now available!  During our visit, I was able to take some informal shots of the Prismatique Eye prototypes and it took every fiber of my being to successfully refrain from swatching the completely pristine samples.  That being said, I am hoping to be able to share a spectrum of swatches and beauty looks with this formula in the very near future!

(1) Surratt Beauty Prismatique Eyes (also available at Barney’s NY): This cream and powder eye shadow duo is genius.  The two layered packaging is sleek and stylistically advanced, with the cream formula residing on top and a swivel out powder shadow pan on the bottom.

The cream is pigmented and waterproof, enabling it to serve as a primer, smoothing eye shadow base, opaque veil of color and even, when applied with a brush, as an eyeliner. Intended to be a top coat of epic proportions, the powder shadow is smooth and shimmering for a multi-dimensional effect that makes eyes glow.

Although all eight shades are as gorgeous, I cannot help but be drawn to the warm taupe and brown options (Real Eyes and Neutral Eyes) for an everyday look while the adventurer in me wants to give the rich purple Glamour Eyes and uniquely khaki Mesmer Eyes a try!

(2) *Laura Mercier Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation: As a foundation-phile of the highest order, I was excited to try this latest base release from Laura Mercier.  Designed to mimic the flattering and forgiving glow that candlelight can cast across the face, this foundation offers buildable to medium coverage and a radiant satin finish that stays in place for hours.

The formula comes in an impressive 24 shades–from the lightest alabaster to the richest chocolate–and Honey, which is my match, is a warm light-medium beige suitable for NC 25 skin.

I need two to three pumps to provide my skin with light-medium coverage; smooth, liquid and rather weightless in texture, this foundation feels like velvet and blends easily.  Although it is not an oil-free formula, it seems to play well with sensitive, combination skin like mine and the lasting power is remarkably decent, especially for a “dewy” blend.  I get 5-6 hours of comfortable, touch up free wear.

In terms of luminosity, the finish is glowing but not overly shimmery.  In fact, it’s difficult to see obvious signs of radiance in a swatch and, once applied, it transforms one’s canvas into a “healthy skin” look that is neither too matte or too dewy.

I am completely smitten with the finish but must stress that this formula does not offer as much coverage as other Laura Mercier foundations–specifically the medium coverage  Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide (reviewed HERE) and full coverage Silk Creme Foundation (reviewed HERE).  If you seek immense coverage, then I recommend one of those two formulas to achieve your goals.  This foundation, however,  is a great option for those who prefer lighter coverage and an ultra-flattering finish that highlights the best qualities of skin.  If a lightweight, translucent veil is sought, then this foundation is a super lovely candidate.

Please note that this post is designed to be an introduction, rather than an in-depth review of this formula…I will be sharing comparison swatches and additional images of it in action on the face soon!

 Official details, courtesy of Sephora:

What it is:

An ultra-lightweight, medium-coverage foundation that creates a soft candlelit glow on skin, day or night.

What it does:

Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation spotlights your skin with a
soft glow. Its calibrated blend of radiant-pearl mica, embedded in an
ultra-lightweight formula, mimics the reflective glow of just lit
candles. This mica fusion is blended with purified water to hydrate skin
and allow foundation to glide onto skin for lasting smoothness and
natural luminosity. Its blend of lightweight oils locks in this
moisture to leave skin balanced, soft, and beautifully radiant, while
micro-fine, color-true pigments provide a natural, skin-flattering
finish.

What else you need to know:

Laura Mercier always dreamed of inventing a foundation that
recreated the atmosphere of a candlelit room. This product is
dermatologist tested and noncomedogenic.

-Calibrated Blend of Radiant-Pearl Mica: Blurs imperfections and helps
to even skintone; mimics the reflective glow of just-lit candles.

-Refreshing Purified Water: Gives skin a burst of hydration and
helps foundation glide onto skin for lasting smoothness and a
natural-looking glow.

-Blend of Lightweight, Emollient Oils: Lock in moisture, leaving skin balanced and soft.

-Vitamin C and E Derivatives: 0ffer anti-oxidant protection and antiaging properties.

(3) Tom Ford Lips & Boys (also available at Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman): A new round of Lips & Boys shades–25 to be exact–were released right after Thanksgiving and I finally got around to procuring a few to add to my collection (other shades reviewed HERE and HERE).
I selected:
  • Austin: A light neutral salmon nude pink with a creamy finish.  This shade is slightly darker than my beloved Flynn (reviewed HERE) and is shinier and lighter than the matte First Time (reviewed HERE)…a total no-brainer in my book.
  • Jude: A cool and creamy baby pink with lilac leanings.  This shade is similar in depth to Flynn but possesses a indisputably cooler undertone that makes it unique yet entirely wearable.
  • Rocco: A bright medium pink with duo-chrome glitter.  Despite my best attempts, I don’t feel like I adequately captured the glittery aspect of this shade when swatching, however, I assure you that this is a luminous gem for those who prefer a cheerful, deeper pink that borderlines of fuchsia.

hi rachel!! happy new year!! all of the pictures with troy surratt were so wonderful to look at. thankyou very much for sharing the experience with us!! it's early here in cincy so, i'm not 100% quite up but, you can imagine my excitement reading this post! i think i'd start off with "real eyes" shade first. then, "neutral eyes". i'm also wondering about "crystal eyes" which sounds beautiful….well, they all do! these new products really excite me!! as for the lips and boys….i'm just not sure. i love the colors you chose but, for me i just don't think i like a pink lippie. maybe for spring. i've seen every swatch of the new boys and i just not sure. you know i must have a dupe for chanel's mystique and bliss. i thought dempsey was his "peachiest" offering? the picture of you and jethro! you look like a stunnimg teenage model (well, you do) and jethro looks like a "little older man" sitting in back of you!! omg, he's so precious! there is an armani counter here and that foundation looks intriguing. i love the fact that it has a high spf. this outstanding post is going to be a great start of my day which, i'll read over and over again because you know you're my favorite of anything to read on the net. lots of xxxxx and ooooooo's to you!! love, wendy.

I'm dying to get my hands on the Laura Mercier Foundation but being in the UK probably means I have a bit of a wait.
Would you say it's okay on someone with a moderately oily t-zone?
