Strategic Beauty + Style for a Hot Day at Disneyland: What I Wore and What I Brought

Above: Skincare and beauty choices for my day at Disneyland.
Summertime in Southern California is not complete without a requisite trip to Disneyland.  Despite the August heat and hoards of visitors converging at the peak of travel season, the iconic atmosphere, abundant food, amusing rides and endless people watching (!) make the $100 ticket well worth the investment (memories for life…priceless).  My family and I went earlier this week and, consequently, this post is dedicated to the skincare, beauty and style I strategically selected for the 14 hour day we spent at the park.
Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches
Because I knew the day would probably not afford any high-maintenance touchup moments, I chose a simple battery of skincare (just the basics to balance, hydrate and prime the skin) and long lasting, neutral beauty.  I have had a copious amount of past experience with each of the products used, which guaranteed the predictability of their performance in a hot environment.  Consequently, I would recommend this curated list to anyone seeking major longevity in their skincare and beauty!
SKINCARE:  I pared it down to clean and simple for balanced skin and protected skin…this included:
FACE: I gave my base product choices some serious thought before deciding upon a portable cushion compact with SPF 50 (no need to bring additional sunscreen!) and neutral cheeks…this included:
Above: The Stila Perfectly Poreless Putty Perfector…a bouncy, ultra-thin, nearly-invisible, cream-to-powder formula that completely perfects skin.  I like wearing over foundation or AS a foundation.  Medium is good for N/NC 25-30 skin.
Above: Eye strategy.
EYES: I embraced a slightly rosy neutral taupe look that wouldn’t crease, fade, flake or smear…this included:
Above: Lip strategy.
LIPS:  I chose a longlasting peachy pink lipliner and an ultra-hydrating, color-drenched lip balm that could be reapplied without a mirror…this included:
Above: Swatches of all products in direct sunlight.
Above: Style strategy.
STYLE:  I opted for maximum comfort and ease in the sweltering humidity…this included:

The following images reflect all products in action first thing in the morning before heading for our 14-hour day…it was initially overcast but the sun came out in full force by noon:

Above: Strategic beauty on the go…this was in my bag all day!
WHAT I CARRIED in MY BAG:  Everything I might need for a 14 hour day…I am pleased to say that nearly every single one of these products got used at some point!

Bottom Line: I hope you enjoyed this Disneyland-inspired story!  Whether you live nearby to the “Happiest Place on Earth” or not, the products discussed are collectively stellar for long days in warm and humid weather.

Good things ahead, including more foundation swatches and a host of new releases…stay tuned.  Also, I am working my way through responding to your lovely comments and emails; thanks for your patience.

Good morning professor! Disneyland sounds fun! On top of that, I am so happy to hear your opinion about stila's puffy perfector. I was going to get it with their website 25% discount but it was already sold out. Now I will try to get it from sephora, then.
btw, how do you like Burberry's cream eyeshadow? Maybe compared with Tom Ford and Charlotte Tilbury? I am still debating and I don't really need all of them. 😛 The arits brush seems to be so fun(ny) to use!! I wish there are some cheaper alternatives so I could try.

Thanks for the posts and enjoy the rest of California summer!

        Hello Gloria,

It was so fun, indeed! Yes, the Stila Pore Perfector is shockingly good…I wasn't sure if it would be "gimmicky" but the performance is stellar. I am loving the Burberry Cream Eyeshadows…my post from this weekend covers everything! They are not as "whipped" feeling as the TF but have immense lasting power and good color payoff.

The Artis brush takes some getting used to but the fibers perform so well!

        Have a lovely week…XOXO,

I just fell off my chair – Disney is a 100(!)$?? Wow!

Aside from that, lovely look and outfit! I have oily/combo skin so anything I apply in hot humidity slides right off, which is why I avoid finding myself in such climates (for the most part). Also, I cannot pull off shorts that short! It's feasible, but I own a mirror and it keeps me grounded =p. I wish I could grow my hair out to be as long as yours, but alas, no. In heat, I need to have mine up in a bun and away from my face because strands will just stick to my forehead, look gross and drive me nuts.

I wish I had tips of my own for long days in the heat like this, but as of now, I just suffer through them. I do have a couple of products in the mid acquisition I'm going to put to the test in a "sweltering summer in the city" environment and see how they hold up. I'll be checking back here though to see if anyone's got tips I may borrow ;).

        Hello d"or,

I know…the cost of a ticket is shocking! Thanks for the kind words! You may really like the Stila compact as it is so effective in humid weather. And, I only wear shorts this short in the summer…once I start lecturing, it's back to pants, skirts and dresses : )

I hope you are enjoying the tail end of summer…XO and keep in touch and do let me know about the products you are testing,

One of my main issues is that I'm very, very fair, between Mac NC 5-10, so my options for complexion products are slim at best =/. The product I was crossing my fingers for was the Shiseido Pureness Compact Powder spf 15. I was hoping it would be super matifying and sheer, but no, it's quite pigmented and hydrating, actually works much like the Guerlain 4 Seasons bronzer 00 Nude but without the pink sector on me! Back to the drawing board =p.

That is a challenge…but I am sure your alabaster skin is lovely! Please continue to keep me posted on what you try as I know I have many readers in search of effective products on both sides of the depth spectrum! Have you tried the Surratt Beauty Diaphane Powder? It's translucent and mattifying magic!

My HG powder for matifying is the Lancome Poudre Majeur Excellence in Translucide. The name would suggest it's sheer, but it's actually got quite good colour pay-off. In fact, I used to cake it on when I thought the only thing out there for me were the lightest shades that mainstream brands had to offer in foundation (Chanel, Dior… with their 10 ivories etc), and that powder was actually very good at toning down the orange visage those so called lightest foundations would give me. One compact would last me maybe a month with that technique, but that was the only way at the time =p.

So, for just matifying, I'm good. What I really want to find is a source of spf that I can reapply during the day, while toning down shine, and a powder seems to be the only medium for that if one wears makeup. A translucent pressed powder with spf would be lovely!

Now I understand d'Or! I will keep an eye out for that type of powder and let you know if I stumble across something suiting; so many things land on my desk that the chances of finding one sooner or later are quite good ; )

Hope your week is going well…xx,

I never went to Disneyland but it was on the list a few years ago on our trip to Cali. But before there was some last hectic work days, bad food on the flight, the heat, the jet lag and after all, I found myself in St Johns hospital….
Next time I will be better prepared!
Nice pics and a beautifull beauty menue, the lips colors!
      Greetings from Germany

That is too bad that you missed Disneyland…it definitely would have been more enjoyable than the hospital! I can relate…I had food poisoning on a trip to Hawaii once and it was absolutely terrible!

Thanks for the sweet words and hope all is well in Germany…XOXO,
