Tom Ford Traceless Perfecting Foundation...Swatches of All 15 Shades!

Tom Ford traceless perfecting foundation
Above: The freshly released Tom Ford Traceless Perfecting Foundation...long wearing, medium to full coverage and a natural finish...magnifique!
As a foundation devotee, I have been eagerly anticipating the release of the latest Tom Ford foundation formula, the Traceless Perfecting Foundation (currently available at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Bergdorf Goodman).  Up until yesterday, I had only read online murmurings of this formula, which purports long wearing medium to full coverage with a natural finish and comes in a revolutionary airless pump.  Imagine my unfettered delight in discovering that Neiman Marcus Fashion Island (where I was commiserating with Sabrina of The Beauty Look Book for lunch + a beauty-drenched afternoon) had just received its shipment minutes prior to our arrival!  Of course, I picked up a bottle (enabling a comprehensive future review) and will share my initial impressions in this post.

Above: The lovely Sabrina of The Beauty Look Book and me following our time at Neiman Marcus.
The more important element, however, is that I have swatches of ALL 15 shades in various lighting situations to share...since this was a spontaneous swatching session, I had to use my trusty iPhone instead of my esteemed Cannon Rebel but I am pleased with how the images came out nonetheless.  I hope you enjoy ; )

A quick rundown of my initial impressions:
  • The shades are both numbered and named, but, unlike the ordering of the original TF Traceless Liquid Foundation and TF Traceless Foundation Stick (fully swatched HERE), the numbers do not correspond with a "lightest to darkest" schema.
  • Although there is some correlation between formulas (e.g., I wear #5 Natural in the stick--swatched and reviewed HERE; swatches of ALL shades of the stick HERE--and picked up #5 Natural in the Traceless Perfecting), it is not, in anyway, exact.  More on this towards the end of my post.
  • Texturally, the foundation is much more dense than the original Traceless SPF 15 formula and this viscosity yields significantly greater coverage (medium to full) that still looks very believable and not "made-up."
  • Once applied, the foundation takes on a natural matte finish...the skin looks incredibly perfected, yet entirely natural, with a single application.
  • I tested out its purported long-wearing capabilities today...it's sunny, 100+ degrees and extremely humid in Southern CA today and I am on hour #7 of wear as I type this.  My skin hasn't required a touchup (no sliding, creasing or pooling into pores) and looks only slightly glowy.  Impressive.
  • Even though it is thicker in texture than the original Traceless formula, my skin still feels like it can breathe...the formula doesn't feel heavy or greasy whatsoever.
  • It has SPF 15 but doesn't appear to flash back in flash photography.
  • Overall, I am very pleased with this latest foundation incarnation...it provides much better coverage (for my preferences) than the original Traceless SPF 15 formula and more stalwart lasting power than the Foundation Stick (which was already fairly decent to begin with).  This formula is definitely an asset and sure to be a hit at Tom Ford counters...especially as individuals continue to battle sweaty, heated summertime complexions for the next couple of months!

And now for a brief visual break from swatches...

Above: Ahh...the beautiful Neiman Marcus, Fashion Island.
Above: The ever-patient Jethro dutifully waiting while I swatch outside of the store.
Back to the swatches!

Because there is not a direct correlation between the same shade in the different formulas (though some similarities), I wanted to illustrate the differences with a sample shade, #5 Natural, that happens to be my best match in all three formulas throughout the year.

Shade #5 Natural in the:
  • Traceless Perfecting Foundation is approximately NC 25-28 upon dry down.  It leans very warm olive and is a perfect match for my summer skin.
  • Traceless Foundation SPF 15 is approximately NC 23-25 upon dry down.  It, too, leans very warm, but lacks the apparent depth of the Traceless Perfecting version of Natural.
  • Traceless Foundation Stick is approximately NC 20-25 upon dry down.  It more neutral and appears MUCH lighter than the Traceless Perfecting and slightly lighter than the original Traceless versions and is my perfect match in the winter and early spring months.

And so concludes this host of swatches!

Bottom Line: I am beyond thankful that the timing worked out for me to enjoy a gorgeous day at Fashion Island with a dear friend AND have the chance to swatch this incredible new formula (currently available at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Bergdorf Goodman).  Although, of course, more trial will be necessary before I can extend my final opinion on this foundation, I can confirm that upon wearing  it for the past seven hours (and it is excruciatingly warm and humid today), my skin looks ultra even, only slightly dewy and completely fresh (without a single touchup...I didn't even initially set this with powder).  In other words, this medium to full coverage wonder wears beautifully!

More soon including new releases from Jouer, Hourglass and Cle de Peau as well as swatches of the new Tom Ford Concealing Pen (which I also got a chance to play with at length yesterday).  So excited for all I'm working on at Beauty Professor!  Whoever said summer was the "slow season" was dead wrong ;  )

Will YOU be trying this foundation? Thoughts?

Hope your week is going well...xx,

Cle de Peau Fall 2014 Color Collection: Swatches of Every Eye Color Quad

Cle de peau eye color quad swatches
Above: A cavalcade of Cle de Peau Eye Color Quads, patiently waiting to be swatched.
I recently concluded a swatching extravaganza aptly focused on the stunning Cle de Peau Eye Color Quads, currently available at Nordstrom, Saks and Neiman Marcus (will update with a NM link as soon as available).  As an integral part of the CdP Fall 2014 La Beaute Celeste color collection, these veritable gems feature four complementary shades nestled the CdP signature navy blue jewel box packaging.  When I mentioned in a previous post that I would be reviewing this formula soon, I was met with a bevy of email requests for me to share initial swatches of the quads, which would ameliorate the challenge of ordering sight unseen.  In turn, I am happy to share swatches of all eight quads...I warn you now, these eyeshadows are blindingly beautiful.

Although I am still in the process of testing, here is what I have ascertained about this formula thus far...it is:
  • Incredibly silky
  • Luminescent...truly radiant on the lid
  • Does not crease and has considerable lasting power
  • Remarkably pigmented...even the pale shades are potent in their opacity
I will include any additional thoughts as I integrate these quads into looks that I will feature on the blog in the coming days!

Kindly scroll on for details, a host of images + swatches and the Bottom Line...

Above: So much possibility...32 shades worth, to be exact.
Here are the official details, courtesy of Cle de Peau...

Each of the eight new eye color quads feature a perfect constellation of four color pairings that illuminate with shimmering tones.  Selected by Cle de Peau Makeup Creative Director Lucia Pieroni to reflect the rich colors that radiate within the night sky, the palettes are presented in a beautiful, jewel-like refillable case.  Cle de Peau eye color quads are infused with new Optical Color Formula, which melts into skin for a translucent effect, as well as new IH Powder to correct uneven skin tone and maintain color longevity.  Premium Argan Tree Oil helps ensure fade-resistant color and White Lily Extract moisturizes the delicate eye area.

Onto the quads...

Bottom Line: The Cle de Peau Eye Color Quads (currently available at NordstromSaks and Neiman Marcus) are gorgeous in an otherworldly sense (how apropos!).  Buttery smooth, richly pigmented and brimming with lush, light-capturing properties, there is sure to be a befitting option for every individual's unique personal coloring.  I am utterly smitten with Baby Universe and Stellar Gaze but will be featuring looks with all eight quads in the near future. These are endlessly wearable and definitely a worthy splurge for fall!

Which quad has captured YOUR eye?

So much more in the coming days including the Jouer Summer 2014 Collection, a new release from Hourglass and some serious foundation swatches from some of my favorite lines (CdP, TF, oh my!)...xx,

Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Cheekbones Bronze and Glow + Comparison Swatches

charlotte tilbury filmstar bronze and glow
Above: The Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze + Glow comes in a stunning rose gold compact, reminiscent of more glamorous days of the past.
A few weeks back, I mentioned ordering the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze + Glow compact  from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (running now through August 4th).  An update a week later briefly showcased it's beauty and utility.  Now, after nearly two weeks of daily use, I am ready to extend my comprehensive review of this magnificent procurement.

Kindly scroll on for details, comparison swatches, images of this product on my face and the Bottom Line...

Above: The rose-gold compact is captivating and the quality metal has not scratched yet, even when tossed into my purse.
Currently available at both Nordstrom and Selfridges, this compact is not only endlessly beautiful; it also delivers gorgeous results.  Over my two weeks of testing, I have allowed this single product to replace my regular contour, bronzer and highlighter needs and find that just a little bit is necessary to create a warm, sculpted, glowy look.  Following foundation, I like to apply the "Sculpt" shade to the hollows of my cheek bones, down the sides of my nose, along my jawline and the outer edges of my forehead for a defined, cohesive look.  Then, I use a smaller brush to apply the "Highlight" shade along my upper cheek bones (a little goes a long way!), on my upper brown bones and down the center of my nose for an illuminated effect.  The entire process takes me a less than 60 seconds and the results, I daresay, are flattering.

Above: Since the product is so pigmented, only a bit is need to achieve results on my light-medium skin.  This image depicts the nominal amount of wear on the pans after two weeks of daily use...still looks like new!
Here are the official details, courtesy of Charlotte Tilbury:

This is a secret that silver screen sirens have kept to themselves for years – and once I share it with you – so will you! With FILMSTAR BRONZE & GLOW you can slim, sculpt, shorten, trim and highlight your features. It’s amazing what clever shading and highlighting tricks can do to your facial framework - it’s an illusion that I use all the time, particularly for red carpet scrutiny, and my clients can’t get enough of it. Take what you were born with and maximise your assets with FILMSTAR BRONZE & GLOW!

• The bronzer is the perfect universal blend of pearl and pigment to contour features and mimic a sun-kissed complexion.
• The highlighter is built up from a golden base that flatters any skin tone, and uses Light Flex Technology to capture light and radiate it out for a luminous complexion.
• Colour-rich pigments are rolled into elastomer pearls that smooth & buff the skin for excellent blendability & perfect colour uniformity.
• Paraben-free

Above (clockwise from top L-R): Charlotte Tilbury Bronze + Glow, Napoleon Perdis Matte Bronze, Daniel Sandler Sculpt and Slim, Chanel Cream Blush in Cheeky, NARS Matte Multiple in Altai (the packaging has not held up well in my makeup bag!) and Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Intensity 01.
In light of the plethora of bronzing and contouring products on the market and in my collection (!), I decided to engage in some comparison swatching...I hope the following images and shade/texture descriptions help you to better envision the beauty that is the Charlotte Tilbury Bronze and Glow.

tom ford shade and illuminate swatches
Above: Swatches of CT Bronze + Glow and TF Shade + Illuminate Intensity 01 in direct sunlight (with a flash).
The first juxtaposition involves two products many of my readers and subscribers have asked me to address: the CT Bronze + Glow vs. the ever-lauded Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate (already reviewed HERE).  Both have similar luxury reputations, high-end price points and flattering results, however, their chief differences reside in the areas of texture and undertone.  Whereas the Sculpt portion of the Charlotte Tilbury is obviously a powder product (albeit, finely-milled and extra smooth) with a luminous satin finish, the legendary Tom Ford "Shade" section is cream-based and shimmer free.  Additionally, the Bronze + Glow leans more neutral and "true tan" while the Shade + Illuminate is a warm brown that could initially look daunting in the pan. Overall, both shades are perfectly suited to improving one's canvas and I would deem the TF version more of a classic contour (especially because of its traditional "brown" base) while the CT incarnation is perfect for everyday use due to its "bronzer vibe" and extreme ease of application.

tom ford shade and illuminate swatches
Above: Closeup swatches of TF Shade + Illuminate Intensity 01 and CT Bronze and Glow in direct sunlight.
Finally, the highlighter portions have markedly different undertones as well; the CT "Highlight" has a subtle champagne gold pearl effect that is highly pigmented for such a fair shade...a little truly goes a long way.  With regards to the TF "Illuminate," this transparent cream offers luminescence without pulling gold or silver in sheen...it looks more like naturally radiant skin rather than a "shimmer."  That being said, I prefer the ease of application and lasting power of the CT "Highlight," as I feel the TF "Illuminate" is so subtle that I have to use quite a bit more, and then, due to its emollient texture, run the risk of it migrating on the face.

charlotte tilbury filmstar bronze and glow comparison swatches
Above: Swatches of Daniel Sandler Sculpt + Slim, Tom Ford Shade + Illuminate Intensity 01 and Charlotte Tilbury Bronze + Glow in direct sunlight.
The next close-up comparison is between the CT, TF and another power-based formula, the Daniel Sandler Sculpt and Slim (reviewed HERE).  I delineate a strong similarity between the CT and  Daniel Sandler versions, from texture to satin finish, both of these compacts achieve a similar outcome.  However, the CT is more finely milled and feels creamier to the touch...the bronze shade leans more neutral (closer to the true brown of the TF) in contrast to the Daniel Sandler, which translates as a more traditional medium bronze. The highlighters are also different; the CT has much more depth of sheen than the Daniel Sandler, which is a muted light champagne.  Overall, the Daniel Sandler might be a better option for someone with very fair skin or a heavy hand, while the Charlotte Tilbury will compliment most skin tones in the light-medium-medium/dark range and those looking for remarkable pigmentation in a single product.

charlotte tilbury filmstar bronze and glow comparison swatches
Above: Contour/bronzing options swatched in direct sunlight.
Finally, I chose to compare the CT bronze portion with some other well-loved bronzing/contour products (in both cream and powder textures) from Chanel, NARS and Napoleon Perdis.

In sum, the Charlotte Tilbury Bronze powder is:

Bottom Line: The Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Cheekbones Bronze + Glow (available at Net-A-PorterNordstrom and Selfridges) is a must for contour enthusiasts seeking an easy way to enhance facial depth and add a natural, glowing warmth to the complexion.  I am so pleased with this purchase and know that it likely commemorates the start of many more Charlotte Tilbury acquisitions.  Her makeup is pure luxury and, like other lines created by uber-talented makeup artists (Troy Surratt + Surratt Beauty immediately come to mind), strikes an essential balance between dreamy, creative vision and utter wearability.  Highly recommended!

I hope your week is off to a wonderful start and welcome your questions and comments on this product...have you tried it yet?  Thoughts?  What are some of your favorite contour products?

More soon, including swatches from the Cle de Peau Fall 2014 Collection, a July Favorites video and new releases from Hourglass and Jouer as well as an overview of spontaneous Sephora haul ; )
