Beauty Professor Bits + Bobs for April...

tory burch fragrance
Above: The iconic fretwork of the Tory Burch fragrance...luxe, indeed.
As April comes to a close, I wanted to take the opportunity to briefly highlight an eclectic assortment of products I've been loving this month...some have been previously mentioned in recent posts while others are making their Beauty Professor debut today!

Kindly scroll on for images and details as well as the Bottom Line...

tory burch fragrance
Above: The 3.4 ounce flacon of Tory Burch...bright and classic, this is the quintessential springtime scent.
(1) Tory Burch Fragrance: This newly-released scent emanates springtime.  Clean and classic, its blend of peony, tuberose and sparkling citrus radiate the brightness of a beautiful sunny day.  The dry down notes of neroli and vetiver give it an intriguing quality that translates as both playful and sophisticated.  This undeniably warm-weather fragrance comes in both 1.7 and 3.4 fluid ounce flacons and can be purchased at Neiman Marcus, Sephora and Nordstrom

eve lom cleanser
Above: The balm-like Eve Lom Cleanser + Muslin Cloth is a tactile and effective experience in cleansing.
(2) Eve Lom Cleanser + Muslin Cloth: I must admit, I am late to the party on this highly-rated and esteemed cult favorite cleanser.  The silky, balm-like texture harnesses the powers of aromatic oils and soothing chamomile to gently exfoliate and thoroughly clean the skin, leaving it balanced and toned.  The accompanying Muslin cloth effortlessly removes every last bit of the cleanser without irritating sensitive skin and notably, even on the driest of days, my skin feels entirely hydrated (rather than stripped) after using his cleaner.

Bliss micro magic
Above: Pulverized pumice and nourishing vitamin E work in tandem to create the smoothest skin ever.
(3) Bliss Micro Magic Spa-Powered Microdermabrasion Treatment: I recently took this on my trip to Dallas in place of my trusty Clarisonic (I am a newly-reformed over packer!) and was astounded by the power of this scrub to instantly and gently exfoliate and smooth my skin.  One minute of massage with the finely-milled volcanic pumice formula and my skin was left refreshed, baby soft and glowing.  It is extremely efficacious yet gentle on sensitive skin...I highly doubt that I will ever travel again without it!

Above: An un-retouched, unfiltered image of skin the day after a Bliss Micro Magic treatment...accessories include Chloe Cycas sunglasses and YSL Rouge Volupte #002 Sensual Silk
Eight & Bob
Above: Eight & Bob comes housed in a hollowed out book...very clever and erudite.
(4) Eight & Bob Fragrance: This fascinating fragrance comes housed in a book with the center of the pages cut out so it can nestle securely.  Flanked by an enchanting and illustrious history dating back to 1937 and involving a French Rivera vacation, a yet-to-be US President and a secret cologne blend, this slightly green, definitely woodsy and spicily captivating juice was designed for a man but can be worn by an adventurous and unconventional woman as well.  It's difficult to pinpoint the complexity of its notes...but I am certain of one thing...I adore it!

Napoleon Matte Eye Ink

(5) Napoleon Perdis Matte Eye Ink: I have already heralded this stunning, newly-released liquid liner formula HERE and HERE but wanted to share some dedicated images as well.  Jet black and very long lasting, the precision point glides on with ease, yielding a deep, matte line that lasts all day, impervious to smudging or flaking.  I love

YSL Babydoll Kiss and Blush Fuchsia Desinvolte
Above: The YSL Babydoll Kiss and Blush formula has a unique paddle-meets-doe foot applicator that skillfully places color where you want it.
(6) YSL Babydoll Kiss and Blush #1 Fuchsia Desinvolte:  This lip and blush hybrid boasts a hydrating, creamy, semi-matte, shimmer-free formula that seamlessly deposits color (not texture) and lasts for hours.  For maximum impact, Fuchsia Desinvolt adds a wash of bold pink that translates into a "just pinched" look on the cheeks and a "daringly coy" effect on the lips.  I also own this formula in the softer, cooler, lavender-leaning #9 Rose Epicurean (swatched and reviewed HERE) for more subdued beauty moments.

Above: At Dallas' very own Flagship Neiman Marcus during the r/S conference last weekend.  The architecture and design is utterly gorgeous (more images soon!).
Bottom Line: April has been a lightning-fast month of travel and discovery and I am so excited about the products that I have mentioned both here as well as the ones slated for future posts!

What has been catching YOUR eye lately?

Up next...a drugstore skincare favorite for warm weather, more foundation swatches (Le Metier de Beaute + ARDENCY INN), a recap of my r/S Conference experience in Dallas last week, a full review of the By Terry Cellularose CC Lumi-Serum (already mentioned HERE and HERE) and some new nude lip color acquisitions!

xoxo and have a wonderful rest of the week,

Look of the Day: Hearst Castle

Above: Ready for the castle.
The illustrious entity known as Spring Break graced me with her presence this past week.  However, instead of lazy days at home (my absolute favorite!), I have been in the throes of travel...first to the Central Coast of California with my family and then to Dallas for the r/S Conference (full recap soon).  In sum, I haven't slept in my own bed for six of the last seven days!  That, however, doesn't mean that I have been neglecting my blogging duties; in fact, my days away have provided inspiration for a round of future posts.  First up, a Look of the Day + Face of the Day for my visit to the opulently glorious Hearst Castle.
Kindly scroll on for images and details...

And now for the look (LOTD)...
  • Hudson "Krista" Super Skinny Jeans...super soft and perfectly faded, this everyday pair doesn't stretch out or lose their shape.
  • Anthropologie Elementary V-Neck...this everyday basic comes in a host of colors; the relaxed fit and novel "v" shape in the back lends to its subtle sophistication.
  • Equipment France Shane Leopard Print Cashmere Sweater...I love this particular sweater so much that I own it in three different colors and patterns.  It's a timeless investment that gets a ton of play in my wardrobe!
  • Freebird by Steven Lasso Booties (currently available HERE and HERE)...I ordered these a couple of weeks ago and can't stop wearing them.  Totally comfortable (and I have very particular feet!), the quintessential shade of ivory nude and just slightly out of the ordinary, these will be a staple for months (and years!) to come.  These run true to size.
  • Grand Dame Backback by Seth Wegter (to debut on his site very soon)...A little larger than my original SW creation from last year, this stunning leather backpack also has a shoulder strap for chic convertibility.

Above: We were driven down the hill by an officer, who eventually believed that we truly lost track of time rather than  having nefarious intentions for the mansion.  It was scary nonetheless.
Above: Our harrowing day was capped by a magical sunset...so dreamy.
Bottom Line:  Despite living out of my suitcase and experiencing a general lack of sleep I have  thoroughly enjoyed this past week...from taking in the beauty of the sea to embracing the air travel to a new state, my Spring Break has been a blessing.  I hope you enjoyed this Look of the Day post; it's my intention to infuse a few more each month ; )  I look forward to your questions and comments!

Have a beautiful Monday...xx,

Cle de Peau Cream Foundation...Review + Swatches of All Shades

Above: The Cle de Peau Cream Foundation offers medium to full coverage with a natural matte finish that lasts all day.
Since finding out that my beloved Kanebo Sensai Cream Foundation will no longer be sold in the US, I have been, yet again, on a foundation quest to find the quintessential medium coverage cream foundation with a semi-matte yet skin-like finish that lasts the duration of a long work day and is readily procurable at a retailer in my area.  Those who loyally read Beauty Professor know that I have not been reticent in expressing the lengths I will go to obtain a delightful foundation...I enjoy the thrill of the hunt, often the more obscure the product, the better!

During this month, I have tried a host of formulas; I am delighted to report that there are many promising options out there, with the gorgeous Cle de Peau Cream Foundation being the first formula of focus.

Kindly scroll on for more details, shade descriptions with swatches of every shade, images of the formula on my face and the Bottom Line...

Above: Shade O20 is a light beige suitable for my NC 23-25 skin.
According to Neiman Marcus, the Cle de Peau Cream Foundation is:

Luxuriously smooth and enriched with skincare benefits, Cream Foundation creates medium-to-full flawless coverage for any skin type.
  • Achieves a high-quality finish through the synergy of skincare and makeup ingredients.
  • Maintains a long-lasting velvety feel and a just-applied beautiful, radiant finish.
  • Blends perfectly into skin with an ultra-light texture.
  • Revitalizing Moisture Complex moisturizes and visibly smoothes skin's texture.
  • Green Tea Extract helps to prevent skin cell damage.
  • Treatment Lucent Powder EX to bring out natural radiance.
Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Cyclomethicone, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Talc, Butylene Glycol, Nylon-12, Dimethicone, Glycerin, Peg-10 Dimethicone, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides (Ci 77492), Dextrin Palmitate, Barium Sulfate, Iron Oxides (Ci 77491), Aluminum Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Palmitic Acid, Stearic Acid, Trisodium Edta, Distearyldimonium Chloride, Vinyl Dimethicone/Methicone Silsesquioxane Crosspolymer, Iron Oxides (Ci 77499), Polymethyl Methacrylate, Mica, Polysilicone-2, Fragrance (Parfum), Tocopheryl Acetate, Isopropyl Alcohol, Citronellol, Geraniol, Linalool, Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract (Ginkgo Biloba), Rosa Roxburghii Fruit Extract, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Tocopherol, Lilium Candidum Bulb Extract, Triethoxysilylethyl Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone.

Above: The precision tip of the squeeze tube guarantees a controlled dispensing of the product.
The foundation comes in a 1.1 ounce squeeze tube with a precision tip that makes dispensing the formula both convenient and sanitary.  I love being able to toss the tube into my makeup bag for long work and travel days.  At $120, this foundation is an investment, however, because the formula is so concentrated, a little goes a long way and I envision a single tube lasting me four to five months with daily use.

The Cle de Peau Cream Foundation provides beautiful, buildable medium-to-full matte coverage that just gets better with time; after 30 minutes to an hour of wear, this foundation morphs into the appearance of radiantly perfect skin.  Although it doesn't have a dewy finish, I mitigate this lack of initial radiance with an application of my beloved Le Metier de Beaute Peau Vierge #2, followed by a single pump of the By Terry Cellularose Brightening CC Lumi-Serum in Sunny Flash to add a slightly warm glow that is perfect for the bright and warmer months ahead (review soon!).  A large pea-sized amount of the foundation, stippled on with a damp Beauty Blender, is all I need for flawless coverage that stays in place for an indeterminate amount of hours.  Additionally, it was a pleasant surprise to discover that this foundation does not oxidize, has no added fragrance and boasts a decent amount of broad spectrum SPF protection.

Above: A swatch of O20 in direct sunlight.
In comparison to other formulas...the Cle de Peau Cream Foundation:

Above: The eight shades currently available range from approximately N 10 to NW 40.
Shade Descriptions (in my experience only):

  • I10: Light neutral beige suitable for fair skin tones in the N/NW/NC 10-15 range
  • B10: Light rosy beige suitable for fair skin tones in the NW 15 range
  • O10: Light neutral to warm beige suitable for fair skin tones in the N/NC 15-20 range
  • BF20: Light yellow beige, suitable for fair to light yellow skin tones in the NC 20-23 range
  • B20: Light-medium rosy beige, suitable for light/medium skin tones in the NW 20-25 range
  • O20: Light-medium neutral to warm beige suitable for light/medium skin tones in the N/NC 23-27 range **This is my perfect match right now!
  • B30: Medium rosy beige suitable for medium to medium/dark skin tones in the NW 30-40 range
  • O30: Medium neutral to warm beige suitable for medium skin tones in the N/NC 30-35 skin range
Clearly, there are some shades lacking on the darker side of the spectrum, but those with rosier, medium to medium-dark skin could likely find a match with the B30.  Here's to hoping that Cle de Peau expands its shade range to include richer, darker tones in this formula!

The images below reflect the Cle de Peau Cream Foundation on my face in various lighting situations...

Bottom Line: I am so glad that I decided to try the Cle de Peau Cream Foundation.  The flawless, velvet, medium to full coverage it provides is commendable and I appreciate the skin-like finish that develops over the first hour of wear.  The fact that it is kind to my sensitive skin, has formidable SPF (that doesn't flash back!) and lasts though an inordinately long day further justifies the investment.  I find it to be magnificent and, therefore, recommended it highly!  The Cle de Peau Cream Foundation can be purchased at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue.

For brilliant, personalized assistance from the Cle de Peau counter at Neiman Marcus Fashion Island, contact Kimmie Nguyen (949/759-1900 ext. 2121) or CdP Specialist Vivian Huynh at (949) 759-1900 ext. 2118!

I hope your weekend is off to a great start and welcome your questions and comments...much more coming up soon on Beauty Professor!

xx,

Jouer Cosmetics Spring Sirens Shoot with Troy Jensen...A Photo Diary

Above: Jouer Spring Sirens shoot in action.
Last Thursday, I had the rare and distinct opportunity to be a part of the Jouer Cosmetics Spring Sirens 2014 shoot with celebrity makeup artist Troy Jensen.  This once-in-a-lifetime experience was replete with a glamorous 1960’s inspired Jouer makeover and professional photo shoot with the ebullient Troy and his team, as well as the chance to leave with a cadre of the most brilliant images ever.

Kindly scroll on for all the details and a photo diary of the afternoon...
