Lipstick Queen Let Them Eat Cake Lip Color…Decadent, Yet Entirely Calorie Free

When I heard that Lipstick Queen would be releasing a new lilac-toned shade called “Let Them Eat Cake,” I couldn’t contain my excitement.  I love the aesthetic and creativity of this independent “lips-only” line (see past posts HERE, HERE and HERE) and the thought of a pale, lavender-laced shimmer completely whet my appetite!  This is currently available at Barney’s NY and Space NK.
Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches, images of “Let Them Eat Cake” on the lips and the Bottom Line…

Above: The weighty, square gunmetal case is so luxurious.
Housed in a stunning gunmetal case (similar in style and weight to that of the Velvet Rope formula, reviewed HERE), this delicate shade is incredible.  The formula is hydrating and long lasting, it applies sheerly with one coat but can be built up to full pigmentation with a couple of coats, it feels creamy on the lips and the rose-gold shimmer adds a luminosity that makes the lips appear full and voluminous.
I love wearing it on its own or in tandem with a light beige gloss like Le Metier de Beaute Lip Creme in Creme de la Creme (reviewed HERE) or Chanel Glossimer in #191 Songe (reviewed HERE) for extra shine.  The shade itself is a soft, cool lilac pink that looks effortless and sophisticated rather than girly and juvenile. It is actually darker than one might expect at initial glance, but I think that adds to its dimension and versatility.  I truly do not have a duplicate in my vast collection, making the procurement of this lip color that much more satisfying!

Here are the official details, courtesy of Lipstick Queen:

“I’ve always been fascinated by the opulence of the court of Versailles and it was Marie Antoinette’s infamous misquote that ran through my head when I created this lipstick.”  Poppy King

This summer’s lavender trend gets a Lipstick Queen makeover with Let Them Eat Cake, a delicate lilac lipstick shot through with sugary sparkles that will light up your entire look.  Paying homage to Marie Antoinette’s lavish taste and her total rejection of the ordinary, Poppy created this ground-breaking and truly extraordinary lipstick that captures the same spirit of rebellion and decadence.  Pretty pastel is given a special metallic finish with a rock and roll edge that shimmers flirtatiously on the lips.

Can be worn alone or as a topcoat, it will will transform your favorite Lipstick Queen shade with its unique metallic pearl effect.  The icing on the cake, if you will!
  • With anti-oxidant Vitamin E and nourishing Apricot Kernel Oil
  • Suits all complexions
  • Cool tones of lilac are cleverly countered with rose gold lustre pigments that catch the light and create voluptuous lips
  • Summer’s lilac trend made flattering

Bottom Line: Lipstick Queen Let Them Eat Cake lip color is pure indulgence.  The rose gold-tinged lilac is flattering for spectrum of skin tones and the shade itself is light enough to resonate with its fanciful, dessert-themed name yet dark enough to avoid washing out the complexion.  This is such a beautiful installment from Lipstick Queen and I highly recommend it to lovers of the brand as well as to those who adore lip color in the lilac family…pick yours up at  Barney’s NY and Space NK.
More soon…xx,

    Hello dearest B.P,

What a joy it is to touch base with you again!!! I hope that you and your family had a wonderful 4th of July filled with scrumptious food, great company and lots of laughs. I am thoroughly loving catching up on all your wonderful posts especially FOTD's and monthly favorites. This shade of lipstick looks amazing on you and certainly portrays a sense of elegance and sophistication. I adore the luminescence that the shimmer offers, which does not look overly sparkly or glittery…a look which I do not favor. The photo of you and Jethro is gorgeous as you are both looking so relaxed and are clearly reveling in the sunshine!

Products which I have been reaching for this month includes:
    – YSL Touche Eclat foundation. I am LOVING this as it imparts a glowing effect that is never oily or shiny, and has a surprisingly long lasting finish when buffed appropriately into the skin. It has a light to medium coverage which is currently hydrating on my skin, since we are in the middle of our Aussie winter; and skin dehydration is at it's peak.
    – YSL Touche Eclat highlighting pen. I use this over my under eye concealer for added brightness and to counteract darkness. It does not settle into fine lines and has slotted nicely into my morning routine.
    – NARS Matte Multiple in Anguilla. This is wonderful as a blush and I enjoy the fact that it can be built up for a more pronounced effect if desired.

Dear B.P I am eagerly anticipating your future posts and wish you a wonderful week ahead! Yours in beauty (and brains), Karen xxoo

      Dear Karen,

Wonderful to hear from you!! We did indeed have a lovely 4th of July…a family BBQ and games…always fun. Thank you for your kind words about my recent posts…I have enjoyed generating them without the same work responsibilities since I have the summer off ; )

Ahh…I LOVE your favorite product list…always enjoyable to hear what other beauty lovers are embracing it sounds like you have marvelous reasons for all of your selections. Thanks so much for sharing! You have inspired me to revisit my Anguilla (which I bought months ago but haven't used nearly enough).

I hope all is well for you and your family and look forward to chatting soon…have a beautiful rest of the week!

The photo with you and your mom is truly fabulous 🙂 Plus, it is nice to see the comparison as my colouring runs more similar to hers. This really is a flattering lip shade. Great post

      Thank you!!

I am wearing a combination of the Cle de Peau Cream Foundation in O20 and the Guerlain Joli Teint in Natural (I can't help but experiment with mixing formulas) plus a bit of the Le Metier de Beaute Peau Vierge Powder #2! a perfect blend that lasts all day!
