On my quest for the perfect summer foundation, I have already made mention of the glorious La Prairie Anti-Aging Hydra Tint HERE.  Available at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Saks, Bloomingdales and Bergdorf Goodman, this lightweight wonder offers hydration, anti-aging skincare benefits and sheer, buildable all the way to medium coverage that provides a veil of SPF protection and a beautiful, skin refining tint.

Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches of each shade, images of the Hydra Tint on the face and the Bottom Line...

According to La Prairie:

“Now more than ever, our clients demand multi-tasking, high performance age-fighting products to seamlessly work into their skincare regimen, and I’m confident our new Anti-Aging Hydra Tint SPF 20 does all this and more. We’ve taken the concept of multi-tasking moisturizer to the next level and packaged it in an innovative and sleek bottle for easy application. This is sure to be a daily skin- care staple for women of all ages who seek light coverage without sacrificing crucial SPF protection,” says Lynne Florio, President, La Prairie.

The Hydra Tint formula...
  • PROTECTS: provides SPF 20 UVA and UVB protection against damaging sun exposure
  • MOISTURIZES: an extract from salicornia plant and sunflower seed oil increase skin's moisturization.
  • FIGHTS AGING: an anti-aging peptide helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles; resveratrol and white licorice act as anti-oxidants.
The tactile, squeezable tube houses a respectable 1.4 ounces of product (compared to the traditional 1 ounce of most foundation and base products) and dispensing the Hydra Tint is easy to control, allowing for precision and the avoidance of product waste.

USAGE + PERFORMANCE:

In my experience, the La Prairie Hydra Tint is a marvelous choice for a summer foundation.  I like to buff it into my skin with a damp Beauty Blender and build it to nearly medium coverage, both for the aesthetic and SPF benefits.  I find that it effortlessly evens out my skin tone but still allows the natural texture of the skin to show through, making it a befitting option for times when ultra-natural (yet perfected) skin is in order.  Although there is no discernible shimmer, the finish is still a lovely satin-matte that simply translates as "really good skin."

If one desires a more immediate matte finish, following with setting powder is always an option; I prefer the more dewy finish (at least initially) so I tend to avoid following with powder unless I am looking for more coverage or it is inordinately humid outside.  In terms of longevity, I get six to seven hours of wear before feeling the need to touch up with powder.  The fragrance is light and dissipates upon application and this in no way irritates my ultra-sensitive skin.

This is a light formula with remarkable coverage and a respectable lasting power...it does not fade, migrate, pool or get patchy, even with hours of extended wear, and it's comforting to know that the Hydra Tint contains ingredients that are helping my skin to actively fight the aging process when applied!

The Hydra Tint comes in four shades:
  • #1: Light neutral beige for those with fair skin tones (approximately N/NC/NW 10-20).
  • #2: Light neutral to warm beige for those with light to light-medium skin tones (approximately N/NCNW 23-25).  This is my current shade match and I suspect, due to its relative sheerness, that I could wear it year round!
  • #3: Medium neutral beige for those with medium beige skin tones (approximately N/NC/NW 27-35).
  • #4: Dark neutral beige for those with dark beige skin tones (approximately N/NC/NW 40-45)
**Much to the credit of the formulation, the undertones of all four shades are delightfully neutral (rather than distinctly yellow or pink).  This allows for the most versatility in the realm of shade matching!

Bottom Line: The La Prairie Anti-Aging Hydra Tint is a spectacular option for those seeking light to light-medium coverage, SPF protection and a natural, lasting finish.  For those interested in an equally luxurious, fuller-coverage foundation experience from La Prairie, my in-depth review of the La Prairie Skin Caviar (mentioned HERE) will be surfacing soon!

xx and hope your weekend is going well,

  2. I know I don't need another foundation but your review convinced me. I think 20 or 30 will work for my medium skin tone and since it's sheer, it will be fairly easy for me to color-correct either one.

  4. How funny i was just looking at this product at the nordstrom counter along with the cream blush. I want to find a good tinted moisturizer with the best finish and I was between this and the just skin from chantecaille and the cc cream by armani....do you have any suggestions for me? I have normal to combo skin....slightly oily t zone

    1. What a coincidence! I personally prefer this formula over the Just Skin and Armani CC Cream because I think it has better coverage; both the Just Skin and Armani CC Cream are very sheer and I prefer a bit more evening out of the canvas if I am going to apply a foundation-like product. This formula works well with combination skin and holds up magnificently in the heat!

If you are looking for even more coverage (closer to medium), the Omorovicza is simply lovely! I would recommend it if you are seeking major skincare benefits and a medium+ coverage finish.

      I hope that helps...xx,

  6. I am looking for a light weight formula with light to medium coverage that has a nice satin sheen. I live in a hot and humid climate. Would you recommend this formula or the omorvizca? Thank you ;)

    1. Hello!

Both the La Prairie and Omorovicza are amazing options both aesthetically in terms of skin care, but if you are leaning toward lighter coverage, then the La Prairie is likely your best choice. I find that the Omorovicza gives me more medium coverage (even with a tiny pump of product). In my experience, both hold up well in warm, humid climates.

      I hope that helps...xx,

  7. Hi Rachel, does the La Prairie line have an expiration date on their skincare products with SPF? I have wanted to purchase their Broad Spectrum Sunblock, but unsure if they stamp an expiration date on the product. Thanks! Rosina

    1. Hi Rosina...I haven't noticed one but I have to believe there is one stamped on every product. It is generally the little jar symbol with a number above it (e.g., 12 or 24 for how many months it is good for).

      I hope that helps...xoxo,
