Lipstick Queen Spring Releases: Open Secret + Jungle Queen

I adore the ingenuity of Poppy King’s lip-friendly creations (also reviewed HERE and HERE) and am thrilled to announce that Lipstick Queen recently released two new shades for Spring 2014; the bold hues of the Open Secret and Jungle Queen are sure to flatter a vast range of skin tones and the pigment-rich hydration of their respective formulas is a veritable treat for the lips!
Kindly scroll on for details, images a-plenty and the Bottom Line…

As part of the Oxymoron range, Open Secret is a matte formula-meets-gloss texture lip and cheek tint that creates a radiant (yet shimmer-free!) soft coral pink pop of color that brightens the face in the most perfect, 1960’s, Doris Day film kind of way.  Retailing for $24, Open Secret is wildly pigmented while being entirely wearable…pink and peach lovers should strongly contemplate adding this to their collections.

I like to apply Open Secret with the tip of my ring finger…the formula is drenched with pigment, so a little goes a long way.  If you prefer a more glossy finish, I wholly recommend adding a touch on the center of the lips, however, I quite enjoy the longevity I get from wearing an unmitigated layer.  Despite its mostly matte texture, my lips do not feel dry over the course of wear.  I get approximately 4-5 hours of steadfast wear time with Open Secret and attribute this longevity to its color-rich composition.

Above: Jungle Queen is a bright coral red.
Jungle Queen is a vibrant coral with an opaque yet semi-glossy finish that brings life to the entire face! Possessing perhaps the most visually stunning packaging this side of “Tom Ford land” (I must admit, I am partial to green), the bullet within is a stunning warm red-coral-orange that makes a bold statement while simultaneously keeping it classy.

Even more hydrating than Open Secret, Jungle Queen applies smoothly and comfortably while having enough “tact” to stay within the lip lines over the course of wear.  The satin cream finish (once again, lacking all signs of shimmer!) gives the lips a soft, plush appearance that I find rare with shades of this intensity.  I like to apply this straight from the tube and note that two passes builds to maximum opacity.    Because it is so pigmented, the lasting power is immense; 6+ hours of smooth and balanced wear without a need for touch ups and, when the color fades, it does so evenly, leaving behind a cheerful popsicle stain.

Bottom Line: The latest releases from Lipstick Queen are simply brilliant!  Open Secret’s versatility as a semi-matte peachy-pink cream for lips and cheeks has assured it a place in my regular rotation for the warmer months and the bold crimson-orange of Jungle Queen is both on trend and delightfully wearable.  Highly recommended!
Both products are available at:  Bloomingdale’sBarney’s NYSpace NK and Lipstick Queen.
Have YOU tried anything from the Lipstick Queen line? Thoughts?
I hope your weekend is off to a gorgeous start…xx and much more soon,

Oh Open Secret you MUST be mine!

I have Jungle Queen and I must admit my other lipsticks are feeling rather neglected since this has been my "to go" shade for the past few weeks.

lipstick queen vs. tom ford lipsticks..is it really "you get what you pay for" deal? i can't seem to let myself shell out $50 for a tube of lipstick. help!!

      Hi Lesley,

They are both of excellent quality and you couldn't go wrong with either brand! Lipstick Queen has more special releases and a vast array of textures and finishes. Tom Ford has a more fixed collection and specializes in highly-pigmented cream finishes. A couple of my favorite lip colors ever are from both lines…Lipstick Queen favorites include Let Them Eat Cake and Hello Sailor and Tom Ford favorites include Nude Vanille and Naked Gloss.

      I hope that helps…xx,
