New Products I’m Loving Right Now…

Here’s a brief video on some new products (from Koh Gen Do, Illamasqua, By Terry, Chanel & Givenchy) that I’ve been loving lately.  For your convenience, I’ve annotated their titles in the video!  I am also trying out a new lighting and background schema…feedback please ; )

Products mentioned include

1. Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation Illuminator: I’ve used this everyday since receiving it early this month…one pump and my face glows all day without crossing the line into the dreaded “shine territory.”
2. Illamasqua Blush in Katie: This extremely pale pink matte blush adds the most exquisite rosy flush.  “Doll Cheeks” in three seconds flat!
3. By Terry Touch Expert Concealer in #5 Vanilla Beige: This light beige with yellow undertones refines and brightens up my under eye region and conceals blemishes with an instant swath of velvety coverage that doesn’t fade, cake or migrate, even after hours of wear.  A constant in my makeup bag as of late.
4. Chanel Illusion d’Ombre Eyeshadow in Initiation: My brother picked this LE shade up for my mom and me while in Vegas last week…last two at Barney’s NY!  It is a sparkly taupe that gains a gorgeous depth when applied heavily.  I can’t stop wearing it with a touch of By Terry Cream Shadow in Brown Perfection (review soon!) in the crease…neutral perfection!
5. Givenchy Poudre Bonne Mine Healthy Glow power in #1 Premiere Croisiere: Marketed as a light  bronzer (a la Chanel Les Beiges), #1 is so pale that I am using it as a setting and touch up powder for my NC 25 skin.  It has lovely medium coverage and a paradoxical matte/glowy finish that makes this a delightful discovery.
5. Edward Bess “Edward’s Best” Lip Palette: I adore the peachy pink goodness of “Candid Affair” and couldn’t help but wear it in this video.  Here’s to hoping that Edward releases a full lipstick bullet version of this shade immediately!

I welcome your questions and comments and hope you have a lovely start to your week! Good things ahead on the blog including a few new skincare items I’m in the midst of trying, Surratt Beauty swatches, Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation (new formulation) swatches and holiday items from Napoleon Perdis and Jouer…

xoxo,

Hi Rachel. I much prefer your previous background for videos. I've only had time to watch a handful of your videos but the previous background was attractive and added some life to the video. I will say, I am so NOT a video/lighting/photography expert so I am just commenting from a viewing perspective. The white background does serve the purpose of not distracting the viewer's eye from what you are discussing, but I prefer the "reality" of your previous background. Only because we don't live in a stark white world and it's nice to see how the products look on you with real color and objects around you. I hope that made sense 🙂 In any case, I will continue to watch your reviews regardless of what you decide because my primary interest is in the product. Thanks for asking for feedback from your readers; that's a very nice touch.

      Hello Deb,

Thank you for your candid and detailed feedback…I truly appreciate it! Sometimes I am concerned that my yellow wall throws the colors off but I am glad to hear that it is of visual appeal, too ; ) I will likely bounce between both settings depending on the nature of the product and the time of day in which I film (my white hallway seems to work better at night since my dining room has a big window and when it's dark, it competes with the light I do have).

I hope you have a wonderful week…xoxo and talk soon,

Hi B.P, the new products look great and as always, your skin looks amazing. I really like the Chanel shadow as I was just swatching some shimmer ones at Sephora but did'nt find 1 that I loved. It's the perfect brownish/khaki i've been looking for. The Koh illuminator is next on my list to order. I love me a good illuminator & I'm almost out of the Becca. Thank you for the video….keep em coming! xoxox have a great week.

      Hello Lynn,

Thanks so much! I highly recommend the Chanel shadow if you can track it down…I think it might be LE for the holidays but it is well worth the hunt since it can be worn all year long. Yes, you absolutely need the KGD illuminator…I love it more with each passing day. It literally melts into the skin instead of sitting on top of it like cream versions. LOVE!

Thanks for your encouraging words…xoxo and have a beautiful week!

Hi Beauty Professor, I hope you can help me out. I have recently started following your blog and I absolutely love it. Love your reviews on Sunday Riley and I just received my Good Genes in the Post this morning! I have been reading all of your reviews on LMdB foundation and would absolutely love to purchase some. Am in Dublin, Ireland so no hope of getting any samples. I am mixed race (Irish/African), very oily skin and all that goes with it!! The foundations and shades that I have used are CoverFX M80, Makeup Forever HD 128, Chanel Perfection 80 and Jouer luminimizing moisture tint in Bronze. I spoke to a makeup artist in MUFE who said that HD 128 is beige based with olive undertones, although she also said I have some yellow undertones. I tan easily, never go red but I am still unsure whether I am cool or warm toned. Hate any foundation that makes me look reddish. Anyway, apart from all that, I just want to let you know that your blog is inspiring in a "can have my cake and eat it" kind of way! Shall keep on following you and I won't go far wrong

      Hello,

So happy you found your way here…thanks for your sweet words! The LMdB foundation is fantastic and I am excited that you are trying it. Based on your current matches, I think you could be a #9 or #10. The #9 is slightly lighter and yellower and the #10 is a bit darker and more neutral (but not red or pink).

I hope that helps…xoxo, keep me posted and thanks for reading!

    Hi,

Great video, I too enjoy the previous background for your video, it seems more welcoming, or more relaxed, but I understand your reasons for choosing the plain back ground. I definitely don't find your usual background distracting from the product.
Fantastic selection to, I can see why you are loving them.
Do you know a reliable online seller that posts to Australia for the Koh Gen Do illuminator as I would love to have some.

Can't wait for some more videos and when can we expect to see another Office Hours?

    Take care lovely,

    Julie xoxo

      Hello Julie,

Thank you and I appreciate your feedback regarding my background. I love shooting in my dining room but the lighting has been so challenging lately (it feels like it's extra dark outside, much earlier than normal, even with daylight savings taken into account!) that I've had to be a bit creative.

With regards to your question, have you checked into whether Barney's NY ships to Australia? Also, what about ordering directly from Koh Gen Do (I've had great success dealing with them directly). Finally, Sephora now carries KGD, so that could be an option as well!

More videos soon and an Office Hours in the works…so many posts, so little time ; ) I am also working on a holiday gift post (makeup and skin care related, of course) and hope to have that live before Thanksgiving!

xoxo and talk soon dear friend,

rachel!!! i've been having computer issues but, i always read your posts, just freezing up and i can't leave a comment on here. so, i purchased initiation today and am very excited. now, i need to find a brown color for the crease. seems easy but, in my area not so……i should call barneys for the by terry items. i'd love to get that "undereye pen" but, have no idea of what shade to get. i'm pale but sometimes the makeup artists give me a shade darker, it depends. happy thanksgiving rachel!!! i'm so thankful for you and your wonderful blog. love always, wendy. xoxo

      Hello Wendy!

I am so excited that you were able to purchase Initiation! I wore it today with a darker brown shade (Jouer Maple) and the combination was fantastic. For a darker brown for the crease, I love Maple or Brown Perfection from the By Terry line! Also, if you are pale (as you describe) and want to try the By Terry concealer, I suggest #4…it is one step lighter than mine (a neutral light beige).

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Wendy…xoxo and looking forward to chatting soon!!
