Foundation Swatch Comparisons...Suqqu, By Terry, Kanebo Sensai!

Above: The swatching subjects...By Terry Densiliss #4, Suqqu Frame Fix 002, By Terry Sheer Expert #7 By Terry Cover Expert #7, By Terry Densiliss #7, Kanebo Sensai Cellular Performance Cream Foundation #22 and Suqqu Frame Fix #003.
My obsession with foundation is no secret.  In turn, I swatch...a lot.  Recently, I procured both the elusive Suqqu Frame Fix Cream Foundation (review found HERE) in two shades as well as the brand new By Terry Densiliss Foundation (full shade spectrum can be found HERE).  Since both formulas are not easily attainable for most, I've received a barrage of requests for swatches of both formulas, alongside some other By Terry formulas (Sheer and Cover Expert) and a oft-written about and personal lifetime favorite, Kanebo Sensai Cellular Performance Cream Foundation.

Despite a hectic week, I am happy to oblige and hope the following swatches and shade descriptions (in my personal experience) are endlessly helpful for those of you ordering these formulas online!  Scroll on!

Above: Swatches in indoor lighting (from a window).

Hana Pro Ceramic Flat Iron with Tourmaline...Review and Video Demonstration

Above: The Hana Professional Ceramic Flat Iron with Tourmaline.
Finding ways to tame my long, thick hair is always an adventure.  Although it is naturally straight, daily washing (it must feel clean!) and a lack of thorough brushing or drying (I am huge fan of sleeping with it wet) creates ripples and tangles a plenty.  I recently had the chance to try the Hana Professional Flat Iron with Tourmaline, compliments of and am delighted with the sleek results.

Kindly scroll on for images, details, a video demonstration and the Bottom Line...

Above: A bevy of gifts with my flat charming!
Before lauding the flat iron itself, I must mention that ordering hair products from Misikko is enchanting...the intended product is flanked by a gorgeous, color-coordinated bonus gifts that add an element of surprise and enjoyment to the unboxing process.  I received an angel ornament, hairbrush, hand sanitizer, eye shadow palette, nail clippers, eye shadow brush and eyelash curler, all centered around the color of royalty: purple.

Above: The Hana Professional Flat Iron comes with a handy carrying case.
Retailing for $129.98, here are the official details from Misikko:

Dedicated to high ceramic content and top of the line components, Hana's pursuit of high tech styling without hype led to the Hana Professional Flat Iron - Advanced Fusion Molding delivers glass-smooth ceramic-tourmaline plates while acccelerated negative ion output repairs hair follicles, sealing in natural oils for a conditioned, sleek, salon shine that lasts all day.
With professional features like damp-to-dry styling, floating plates that self adjust to different textures and adjustable temperature, the Hana Professional hair straightener is engineered to deliver luxury at a down to earth price.

Hana Professional Features:

  • Advanced Tourmaline Ceramic Plates for Accelerated Ion Generation and Maximum Frizz-Free, Conditioning Shine
  • Ceramic is naturally hygienic, protects color & retards fading
  • Floating 1" Plates Auto-Adjust To Glide Over Any Hair Texture
  • Curved Plate Edges For Versatile Styling - Curl, Flip or Straighten!
  • Adjustable Temperature Dial - 5 Settings from 140-450° F for All Hair Types
  • Flash Heats in Seconds with Instant Compensation for Heat Loss
  • Ergonomic Handle Design with No-Slip Grip
  • Smooth Grooves Keep Hair Strands Separate and Snag-Free
  • Tangle-Free Salon Quality Cord Swivels 360°; Convenient Hanging Loop
  • Energy Efficient at 38 Watts
  • Independent On/Off Switch
  • Includes Luxe Heat Proof Storage Pouch, Heat Proof Silicone Mat, & Special Edition Tin Case
  • Two Year Warranty

Above: The gorgeous blue ceramic plates are infused with Tourmaline for the smoothest experience possible.
From my own experience, this is a remarkably well-crafted styling tool.  The ceramic plates are so smooth that my hair glides through effortlessly...there are truly no rough edges to pose conflict with the process.  A single pass at the second to highest heat setting instantly straightens my hair, making it endlessly silky and glossy upon contact.  The straightening result lasts until my next hair washing, proving the enterprise to be time well spent!

Above: There are five heat settings for a variety of hair types.
I appreciate the fact that there is an easy to operate heat setting dial...although I generally opt for the second to hottest or very hottest option, those with color-treated hair may embrace the cooler temperature to avoid unnecessary heat exposure.

Below: Images of my hair directly following a quick treatment with the Hana Pro Ceramic Straightener with additional products were used!

Bottom Line:  As the video demonstrates, the Hana Pro Ceramic Straightener with Tourmaline is exceptional; it is well-constructed, heats up immediately and is extremely effective at instantly restoring my often unruly hair back to a glossy mane.  I've also been using the Hana Professional Hairdryer (which has saved me veritable hours in the drying department!) and will be reporting the details soon.  Highly recommended!

Next up on Beauty foundation comparison swatches (for Suqqu, Kanebo Sensai and By Terry Densiliss!), an updated skincare routine video, a closeup of the newly-released Le Metier de Beaute Hydra Creme lip color (just bought three shades), a review of the freshly-available Rouge Bunny Rouge Nocturnal Inks, and an overview of how I store my makeup (my house is Muji-central these days)...good things ahead!  Have a wonderful week...xo

Jouer Fall 2013...Paint the Town Red!

Above (from L-R): There is a red for everyone...Grace, Simone, Sophia, Lana and Ava...Holiday 2013 products in the background!
The resonant theme of the Jouer Fall 2013 Collection is red, red and more red!  I had the privilege of attending a special preview luncheon for this stunning collection earlier this month and have included pictures from the event as well as a closeup of the five red lipsticks for the season (more details on festive items from the Holiday collection soon!)

Kindly scroll on for images and swatches galore!

Above: The event took place at the Petite Ermitage, a luxe and charming hotel in West Hollywood with the most exquisite roof top garden.
Above: The setting for the intimate luncheon was the quintessential blend of simple and chic.
Above: Samplings from the Jouer Fall 2013 Red Collection.
Above: The best kind of art...kiss art.
Above: My place setting at the luncheon...loved the personalized touch!
Above (L-R): With the creator of the Jouer line, Christina Zilber and Jouer Head of Public Relations, Meg Young.  Both woman are gorgeous both on the inside and out!
    Onto the lip color...

Above (from L-R): There is a red for everyone...Grace, Simone, Sophia, Lana and Ava.

It is Christina Zilber's belief that there is a perfect red for every woman and all she must do is find it; the Jouer Fall 2013 Collection makes that pursuit easy! The Jouer Hydrating Lip Color formula is lush, moisturizing, highly pigmented and easy to build up to full opacity.  Additionally, due to the premium ingredients, this lipstick is also a potent little bullet of skincare!
    • Grace is a coral-injected bright red for those who prefer light colors and have warm skin tones and light to medium blond or red hair.
    • Simone is a dark red with blue undertones for those with cool complexions and brunette, black or dark silver hair.
    • Sophia is an earthy, nude-infused subtle red for those with warm skin tones and medium to dark brunette hair (my personal favorite!)
    • Lana is a soft pinky-blue based red for those with cool undertones and blonde or light silver hair.
    • Ava is a bright, neutral, true red that works equally well on both cool and warm skin tones!

Above: Grace is a bright coral red.
Above: Simone is a dark, blue-based red.
Above: Sophia is a subtle, earthy red.
Above: Lana is a bright, pinky blue red.
Above: Ava is a true red for all skin tones.
Above: Swatches of all five Fall 2013 shades in the sun.
Above: Swatches of all five shades in the shade.

Above: Sophia alone on the lips.

Above: Lana alone on the lips.

Above: Ava alone on the lips.
    Above: Ava...a statement lipstick, indeed!

Bottom Line: The Jouer Fall 2013 Collection is all kinds of gorgeous...I adore the fact that each woman has the chance to find her very own red, specifically suited to her coloring, and have found myself (an unapologetic pinky-nude lip color devotee!) embracing the subtle yet vibrant Sophia on a regular basis!

By Terry Densiliss Foundation...Swatches of Every Shade!

Above: The By Terry Densiliss Foundation comes in 10 shades and retails for $115.
Upon hearing the news that the By Terry Densiliss Foundation recently debuted at my local SpaceNK, I promptly traipsed to the By Terry counter for a serious swatching session.  Although I left with samples of both #4 and #7, as well as a full bottle of #7, I will exercise extreme restraint in this post and avoid offering my initial impressions other than to say that it appears to give glowy, medium coverage that lasts the whole day.  This formula is currently available at Barney's NY, Space NKBloomingdales, and B-Glowing.

Here is what the By Terry website has to say about this formula...
The 1st wrinkle control and firming serum foundation scientifically proven and approved, that improves skin density, diminishes lines and simultaneously treats all signs of aging.
Terrybly Densiliss® combines a revolutionary patented rejuvenating active ingredient with an optimal makeup correction that immediately targets surface wrinkles and provides deep-down and lasting global result.
    A genuine complexion rejuvenator, 50% skincare 50% makeup, for 100% anti-aging effectiveness.

    - Mimetic Factor: A new active patented care which reduces lines and wrinkles and stops the loss of density of the skin. He acts in a biomimetic way against wrinkles.
    - Flawless Time-Control complex: an association of 3 "powders-pigments" for a triple action on the skin:

    • “Wrinkle Control” translucent powder: smoothing correction
    • “Instant Rosy Glow” Prisms: instant healthy glow
    • “Autofocus Affinity” powder: reduces flaws optical

    By Terry Densiliss foundation swatches
Above: Initial swatches of all 10 shades in indoor, fluorescent lighting.
    Shade Descriptions (in my experience):

    1. Fresh Fair: Fair-light pinky beige for NW 10-15 skin tones.
    2. Cream Ivory: Fair-light neutral beige for N/NC 10-15 skin tones.
    3. Vanilla Beige: Light neutral beige for N 15-N 20 skin tones
    4. Natural Beige: Light beige with yellow undertones for NC 20 skin tones.
    5. Medium Peach: Light peachy beige for N/NW 25 skin tones.
    6. Light Amber: Medium peachy beige for NW 27-30 skin tones.
    7. Golden Beige: Light-medium golden beige for N/NC 25-27 skin tones.
    8. Warm Sand: Medium to medium dark golden beige for NC 30-35 skin tones.
**There is a massive jump from Warm Sand to Intense Mocha!
    9. Intense Mocha: Dark neutral beige for N/NW/NC 45-50 skin tones.
    10. Deep Ebony: Rich, dark cocoa for N/NW/NC 50 + skin tones.

Scroll on for swatches of all ten shades in various lighting situations...

Above: I vacillated between #4 and #7 before finally settling on purchasing the #7.  #4 is the equivalent of NC 20 (and thereby would be too pale for me right now) while #7 is more on par with NC 25 skin tones.

    --Shop the Post--

Bottom Line: Clearly, I haven't tried this long enough to provide a proper, comprehensively executed review, however, I can say with certainty that I have yet to be disappointed with a single By Terry product.  The line is consistently reflective of immense quality...a harmonious synergy of skincare, color and performance.  I will continue to test drive the Densiliss formula (in my current best match, #7 Golden Beige) this week and create an overview of my thoughts in the very near future.  In the meanwhile, I hope this round of swatches is endlessly useful should you choose to order this foundation online, currently available at Barney's NYSpace and B-Glowing.

Have you tried this formula yet?  Thoughts?
