Office Hours for 9/27/13

Above: Completely random...if it is even possible, I adore Jethro more each day...he's such a loving little lamb!
Happy Friday to you!  This post marks my next installment of Office Hours...a variety of musings, both beauty and non-beauty related.  Kindly scroll on for a carefully-curated collection of randomness ; )

Above: Two coats of Fluorescent Beige in natural lighting...a clean and sophisticated nude.
This may be my most professional nail polish picture ever...clean lighting, a careful application and, most importantly, a divine nail lacquer shade.  Marc Jacobs Fluorescent Beige is a new favorite for both fingers and toes...truly a unique nude.
Above: Since my wonderful grandmother is a breast cancer survivor, I have a special place in my heart for this cause.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and one delightfully fragrant way to contribute to the cause is to consider purchasing the Nest candle in Passion.  For each candle sold, Nest will donate 10% of the purchase to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Above: The Nest candle in Passion...a brilliant hot pink wax in a sturdy glass jar.
Inspired by the tireless efforts of Evelyn Lauder, this candle smells divine; a lush blend of roses, sandalwood and pittosporum (her favorite fragrance note), this potent creation fills my house with an intoxicating fragrance, even when it is not lit!
Above: The textbook I use for my mediation course. Thorough and concise!
In addition to my normal teaching schedule, I am lecturing a new class this semester.  Focused on the intricate process of mediation, it's my aim to teach my students the constructive art of negotiation and problem solving. My class is full of individuals who are passionate about both communication and the concept of mediation; this collective energy is yielding a fantastic dynamic of lively discussion and applied practice!
Above: The Oakland Booties in action (or relaxation, should I say).
Boots, boots and more boots...I cannot seem to get enough.  This most recent pair (called Oakland Booties) came from Anthropologie and features a slightly painted toe, distressed cream leather patina and perforated ankle section.  I love wearing them with both shorts and jeans and know they will be an integral (and comfortable!) wardrobe asset in the coming months.

Above: My Loren Stewart Itsy ID bracelet flanked by a Santa Fe one of a kind and vintage Cartier Love Bracelet.
Gold and silver harmoniously residing side by side on my wrist brings me great joy.  The latest addition to this "arm party" comes in the form of a delicate (yet sturdy) Loren Stewart ID bracelet...the chain is sterling silver while the tiny ID bar is 14k gold, complimented by a single tiny diamond.  I love how understated it is and the fact that it is made entirely of precious metals means I never never have to take it off!  I am a solid devotee of the Loren Stewart line; the pieces are simultaneously edgy, classic and chic, a design trifecta that is difficult to find.
Above: Behold the purple glory of a gorgeously packaged Hana styling tool.
Recently, I became acquainted with an online haircare retailer called  In turn, I was privileged to try a couple of styling tools from the Hana line and am completely impressed with both the  presentation and performance of these products.  I will reserve future blog posts and videos to properly discuss the straightener and hairdryer I've been testing, but in the meanwhile thought I'd feature a picture of how the items are sent.  Each styling tool is accompanied by a plethora of color coordinated little gifts...from an eyelash curler to a manicure set, the bonus items are pure sunshine.
Above: Sibu Beauty specializes in Sea Buckthorn Oil products.
The restorative properties of Sea Buckthorn Oil have been abuzz in the beauty world in recent months. I had the chance to try a Sibu Beauty supplement featuring this hallowed ingredient and am infinitely pleased with  the Omega-7 rich gel caps and their power to positively enhance my skin hydration and digestion process.  Prolonged usage promises major anti-aging benefits...I cannot wait to continue taking this supplement and will weigh in on my experience again in the near future!
Above: A single gel cap.
Above: A quick screen shot of the post!
As a RoC Skincare Ambassador, I was honored to be featured on the RoC Skincare Facebook page offering "Ageless Advice" from my lovely mother.  Her "hands off" face approach in engrained in my psyche and I completely attribute my clearer and healthier skin to my adherence to this rule.

Above: Empty trays full of foundation promise!
New foundation sighting...since reading about its release in Europe a few months ago, I have been stalking the arrival of the Giorgio Armani Maestro Compact Foundation and spied this empty tray at my local Nordstrom Armani counter, just begging to be filled with testers.  I am told that it will arrive at stores by early October but discovered that it can be ordered on the Giorgio Armani Beauty website right now!  I will be waiting to swatch the shades in person before buying my perfect match ; )
Above: By Terry Sheer Expert #7 + Ardency Inn Custom Color Concentrate together on the face.
In the midst of some recent travels, I was experimenting with customizing a foundation formula and discovered the many merits of mixing By Terry Sheer Expert #7 with Ardency Inn Custom Color Concentrate in Light-Medium Olive.  The combination is insanely excellent...glowy, full coverage, a spot on color match and a lasting skin finish.  Wholly inspired by this mixture, I even filmed a video on this process that should be live in the very near future!

Bottom Line: There is so much on my beauty radar right now...from the recap of last week's Neiman Marcus event (in the midst of crafting the post) to the impending arrival and review of new products including Muji acrylic boxes (to organize my makeup stash), a bevy of Lipstick Queen pinky nude shades, Givenchy Teint Couture Foundation, and Peau Vierge powder (!),  I am excited to create these future posts for the blog!

I hope you enjoyed this round of Office Hours and will be properly responding to comments on previous posts very soon (it's been crazy busy!).  Have a gorgeous weekend and thanks for being such a lovely reader!

Close Up: Two Current Armani Favorites...Eyes to Kill Excess and Lip Maestro #500

Above: Lush lashes, flushed lips...courtesy of Giorgio Armani Beauty.

Lush lashes, flushed lips...two products are all that's necessary to achieve this golden combination.

Kindly scroll on for a detailed description of a pair favorite Giorgio Armani Beauty products that skillfully create this look with joie de vivre and simple sophistication...

Above: The GA Eyes to Kill Excess is the darkest, most voluminous of the ETK formulas.
The Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Excess Mascara is not a new release, however, I have embraced it intermittently time and again due to the dark, voluminous lashes it creates.  Retailing for $30, the rich, extra-black formula effortlessly glides onto lashes, leaving a wash of lush inky goodness, coupled with an extreme fringe effect.

Above: A single swatch of the ETK Excess formula.
The ETK Excess formula does not come in a waterproof version, however, I find that it still does a respectable job of not smudging, flaking or migrating as the day wears on.

Above: A side by side comparison of the brushes of Le Volume de Chanel and GA ETK Excess, respectively.
The ETK Excess brush is quite unique...not as dense as the stellar Le Volume de Chanel wand, the spindly ETK spikes do a remarkable job of getting into every crevice of the lash line, enabling the formula to be drawn through fringe from root to tip.  This process creates a significant amount of rich, dark volume in two coats.

Above: Two coats of the GA Eyes to Kill Excess formula after eight hours of wear on a very warm day...still maintaining decorum!
All in all, the ETK Excess formula is on par with a few current mascara favorites including Le Volume de Chanel and Guerlain Cils Denfer Maxilash (reviewed HERE).

Above: Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro Matte Lacquer #500 Blush, resplendent in the sunshine.
Being the inextinguishable nude lip color lover that I am, it is difficult for me to venture into brighter, more flushed tones.  That being stated, I recently encountered the most brilliant shade of muted bright pinky is both infinitely flushed in appearance and massively wearable!  Retailing for $32, the Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro Matte Lacquer in #500 Blush has been sold out at my local Armani counter more often than not.  In turn, when I finally was able to procure it, I unequivocally snapped it up (along with an additional tube for my mom!).

The Lip Maestro formula is utterly delightful...unscented, highly pigmented, creamy, moisturizing and long lasting, this matte finish liquid lip glides on like butter, leaving a truly unusual (but beautiful!) velvet finish.  I get 3-4 hours of wear time without a need for touching up and my lips feel balanced and comfortable over the duration of wear.

Above and below: Swatches of #500 blush in direct sunlight and shade.

The shade itself is a bit of an anomaly...initially it looks like a simple rosy nude in the tube, however, once applied, it takes on a vibrant life that is neither exclusively rosy nor nude in nature.  I would describe it as a muted rose-infused pinky coral with nude leanings...that wasn't succinct but it is accurate ; )   The shade is endlessly unique and I am pleased to report that I do not have duplicates for this in my collection!

Due to its pseudo-brightness, wearing this shade feels like an exciting departure from nude territory, without being so bold as to send me veering out of my basic comfort zone.  It is a welcome addition to my ever-growing lip color family and I am confident that it will be the object of great use as the fall progresses!

Above: Two coats of Lip Maestro #500 Blush alone on the lips.

Below: Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Excess Mascara and Lip Maestro #500 in action in various lighting situations...

Bottom Line:  Sometimes, all it takes is a couple of carefully curated products to achieve a transformational effect...during this seasonal transition, one cannot go wrong with dark, lush lashes and muted, flushed lips!  Consequently, I wholeheartedly recommend the robust powers of Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Excess Mascara and Lip Maestro Matte Lacquer #500 Blush.

I hope your Wednesday is brilliant...what are a couple of favorite products on your radar as of late?

Tom Ford Fall 2013 Collection: Vanille Suede Lip Color is a Must...Video Review!

Above: The pure luxury of the Tom Ford insignia.
Earlier this month, the Tom Ford Beauty Fall 2013 Collection arrived to immediate demand for cosmetic aficionados everywhere.  Although I adore the line, the array of gorgeous eye shadow trios that sent shock waves though the makeup community simply were not calling my name.  The same could not be said, however, for the palest Tom Ford lip color to grace the earth...Vanilla Suede! Upon swatching this golden pink, beige-tinged wonder, I knew it had to join my menagerie of nude lip color. Less opaque than the other Tom Ford lip color options, the semi-sheer nature of this lippy actually makes the uber-pale shade easier to embrace.  It brightens up the face without whiting out the lips while single-handedly earning the venerable title of being the lightest lip color I currently own...the mind reels!
Kindly scroll on for product images, swatches, my video review and the Bottom Line...

Above: Vanilla Suede is now, once again, a part of the permanent collection!
Above: Vanilla Suede contains a baby pink micro-shimmer that warms up  pale beige shade, making it infinitely more wearable.
Video Review

Above: My Tom Ford precious pales...Nude Vanille and Vanilla Suede,
One cannot help but compare Nude Vanille and Vanilla Suede...despite the fact that they are two of the palest nudes I own, their undertone and pigmentation are strikingly different.  The very fair Nude Vanille appears positively bright salmon pink in contrast to the subtle, semi-sheer Vanilla Suede, which is more true whitish beige in nature.  Whereas Nude Vanille is a pure cream formula, Vanilla Suede contains a baby pink micro-shimmer that adds radiant and glowing dimension to the lips.

Above: Nude Vanille and Vanilla Suede swatched side-by-side in natural daylight.  Additional comparison swatches of my favorite pale Tom Ford lip lipsticks can be found HERE!
Above: Last look...Vanilla Suede.
Bottom Line:  Tom Ford lip color is undeniably decadent...from the exorbitant cost to the extreme pigmentation, this rich formula is worth the investment, especially when you find your perfect shade!  Vanilla Suede gives my ultimate Tom Ford favorite, Nude Vanille, some formidable competition.  I highly recommend Vanilla Suede for nude lip color lovers who seek a ethereal pale beige sheen that makes the face glow!

Good things coming up on Beauty Professor in the coming days...a recap of my Neiman Marcus event, a video review of Givenchy Teint Couture Foundation, a video featuring a new, super-effective strategy for applying liquid liner, compliments of dear friend and Le Metier de Beaute Director of Color, Mikey Castillo and swatches and face charts for the latest Le Metier de Beaute Kaleidoscopes.  Oh...and I am also working on my latest installment of Office Hours for good measure...xoxo!

Above: Somehow the spikes are understated enough to feel progressive yet subtle.
Above: The slope is kind to my arches.
Above: The heel measures in a 2 1/2 inches and my feet say thank you!

Bottom Line: Whenever the day is going to be long and involved (in this case, in all the best ways!), I opt to wear makeup and clothing that feel polished yet completely unfussy.  It's wondrous how a simple shell, sleek pant and a killer pair of statement shoes can synergistically create a confident yet comfortable vibe!

Cloud Nine: The O Ultimate Set...Video Demonstration and Review!

Above: The hat box inspired carrying case for The O Ultimate Set...well-crafted, sturdy and protective!
My affinity for hot rollers is no secret.  This particular styling tool is my only hope for creating a polished hairstyle in the fleeting moments of the morning before I must leave for work.  The fact that a few minutes of preparation (e.g., putting the curlers in my hair) can actually increase my time to get ready (e.g., my hands are free to apply makeup etc.) makes this process a prudent part of my routine.  It's almost like depositing money into a high interest yielding account ; )

To further my adoration for this styling approach, I recently had the opportunity to try Cloud Nine's "The O" Ultimate Set and am thoroughly impressed by the cutting-edge efficacy of these velcro encased rollers.  The novel heat induction technology allows each curler's core to rapidly heat up in the O Pod  (fully demonstrated in real time in the video, embedded later on in this post!), all the while remaining cool to the touch, thereby making application a veritable breeze.  The mind reels!

Retailing for $400, The O Ultimate Set includes:

  • The O Pod
  • Four 30mm The O Rollers
  • Four 40mm The O Rollers
  • Four 50mm The O Rollers
  • 12 The O Clips
  • Amplify Spray (4.9 oz.)
  • The O Luxury Case
This set affords hot roller lovers everything necessary to quickly create full, voluminous curls that last the day...suddenly, my early morning madness became a little lovelier.

Kindly scroll on for product images, a detailed video demonstration and review and before and after pictures...

Above: The case features a zipper top and upper netting to hold the O Clips.
Above: The various compartments of the case allow all  the curlers to be housed neatly and securely.
Above: The heat indicator dot turns red when the curler has reached maximum heat.
Above: The O Clips are large enough to anchor the longest, thickest hair in place.  It's strong, but not so tight as to create dents on the outer hair...perfect!
Above: The Amplify Spray can be misted onto dry hair prior to using the rollers  to exponentially enhance volume and curl longevity.
Above: The O Pod...this magical orb rapidly heats each curler without emitting any actual heat itself.  Mind boggling!

Above: My daily starting hair couldn't be any straighter.  If my hair can be curled, anyone's can!
Above: Rollers securely nestled in the hair.
Above: Silky, all over volume after 10 minutes of set time.
Above: Medium curls after 15 minutes of set time.
Above: Maximum curls after 20 minutes of set time.
Bottom Line: The O Ultimate Set from Cloud Nine is exquisite...from the chic, all-inclusive hat box like carrier to the insanely innovative way in which each curler heats up in seconds while still remaining cool to the touch, this set makes curling one's hair a luxuriously speedy experience.  Depending on the amount of time I leave the rollers to set, my hair goes from being stick straight to full and voluminous and even downright curly in minutes, all the while, staying free of heat damage.   Highly recommended for the discriminating curler connoisseur!

P.S. Please don't forget to RSVP for my Beauty Professor + Neiman Marcus beauty event at Neiman Marcus Fashion Island TOMORROW, Wednesday 9/18 from 11 AM-1 PM...all the details can be found HERE!
