First Look: Jouer Perfector Foundation + Jouer Video Tutorial!

The Beauty Professor and Meg,  the charming Jouer Head of PR.

My trip to the Jouer headquarters a couple of weeks ago yielded great delight...I met a wonderful Jouer expert, Meg, who introduced the line to me with skill and sophistication.  I was also bestowed with a plethora of products to play with, and that is exactly what I have been doing since then!  Since mentioning this visit in a recent prior post, many of you have been eager to catch a more in-depth view of the line and I am happy to oblige.

Created by former-model and current beauty Christina Zilber, the line, which is based in Los Angeles, means "to play" in French.  This joyous take on makeup definitely resonates with my aesthetic because, like many of my readers, cosmetics make me blithe!  The ingredients are quality (many products feature brilliant anti-aging properties), the packaging, extremely sleek and the makeup itself is absolutely glorious.

Above: Although the Jouer line is most known for its incredible Moisture and Matte Tints (more on these soon!), its cream foundation is equally stellar.

The first Jouer product I am excited to officially introduce on Beauty Professor is the Age-Repairing Perfector.  This buildable creme foundation fights and repairs signs of aging with clinically-proven Dermaxyl complex and antioxidants.  Furthermore, its rich cream finish is buildable to medium-full coverage that powerfully resists creasing and lasts the entire day.

Above: The full ingredients list...in my experience, very brief for a cream-based product.  Thankfully, this is also completely unscented.

Above: Natural and Sand side-by-side.  Natural is great for netural and warm light-toned skin whereas Sand's pronounced golden tones make it perfect for light to light medium skin with yellow undertones.

Retailing for $34, this formula comes in a spectrum of 10 skin-flattering shades.  I was able to try #4 Natural (suitable for N and NC 23-27 skin tones) and #5 Sand (suitable or NC 25-30 skin tones), both of which should take me through the entire year, shade-wise.

Above: Note the tracks on the sides of the compact...these enable the compact to connect to each other!

The sleek and utilitarian packaging, signature to the Jouer line, cannot go without mention.  Designed to be like "beauty product Legos," each compact comes intact with the capability to snap in to another, either horizontally (side-by-side, like a traditional palette) or vertically (more like a two layer sandwich), which adds to its portability and space-saving qualities.  This genius system is further detailed, as well as demonstrated, in my video at the end of this post!

Above: A demonstration of how the compacts connect...I purposely didn't slide them together to their maximum point so you could see the process in action.

Above: Swatches of Natural and Sand in indoor light.

The natural finish on this foundation is remarkable; it feels light, comfortable and breathable and does not get oily as the day progresses.  When I apply this with a damp Beauty Blender (details in my video below), it looks just like real skin, albeit it a perfect version, and has a slight dewiness that I attribute to the creamy and emollient nature of the formula, rather than light-reflecting particles (which are not apparent).  This formula is extremely versatile; for those that need only a bit of coverage, a touch of this product can be applied with fingers to instantly even the skin.  For those (like me!) that prefer a medium-coverage base, using a damp Beauty Blender to build to desired opacity is inordinately easy.

Additionally, it is a fantastic companion product to a tinted primer or tinted moisturizer that might only offer sheer and light opacity, because one can simply apply this foundation precisely where they desire additional coverage (rather than layering over the entire face).

I find that I get six to eight hours of flawless wear before a touch up might be necessary...this longevity is significant for those of us who love cream products, no?!

Below: The next two images reflect the Jouer Age-Repairing Perfector Foundation in #4 on my face...note the flawless and dewy finish this formula imparts!

Below is a video tutorial, featuring my method for applying the Jouer Age-Repairing Perfector Foundation as well as an introduction to a few other key Jouer products that collectively create a simple and classic look.  I'll be reviewing many of the products mentioned in the video on an individual basis as well, but hope that you enjoy watching how they work together synergistically in the meanwhile ; )

Bottom Line:  I am absolutely impressed by the Jouer Age-Repairing Perfector Cream Foundation...it is affordable, portable, buildable, creates a flawless skin finish and lasts the entire day.  Couple those benefits with stellar ingredients and a myriad of shade options and I am left to ask myself why it took me so long to try this formula.  Highly recommended!

    1. Hello Bianca!

Jouer is such an incredible line...so portable, high quality and gorgeous shades. I love that you already have a great start with the products you currently own. I totally recommend the foundation and Maple eyeshadow...both are remarkable!

  2. hi rachel!!! i was pronouncing jouer as "joe-ear". thankyou for setting me straight on their name!! i just loved tutorial! your skin looks so luminous, just gorgeous! i think i told you i was scraping down to "the pan" on my eyeshadow quad. for some reason, i seem to be fixated on having 4 shades in a compact with a matching eye pencil. i'm finally realizing that i don't always need this. i love how you use minimal products and acheive maximum impact. on my wish list now are jouer products along with youngblood and by terry. jouer seems to be the easiest to access as i noticed they do offer it at nordstroms. i can't wait for your next tutorial!!! xoxo to you!! wendy p.s. i know you have featured tom ford's sable smoke on your blog. do you have vanilla suede? i saw a sneak peak at tom ford's fall collection. by pass the burgundy lippies and i think you'll really love this collection.

    1. Hello Wendy!!

I was doing the same thing before Meg taught me the proper pronunciation ; ) Let's just say that French is not my language! I am so glad you liked my tutorial...thank you! I had wonderful products with which to work, thereby making my job an easy one....totally recommend the eye shadow in Maple. I kid you not, every time I wear it (which has been quite frequently lately), someone asks me what it is--it is that good (and with the addition of mascara, that is the only color I am wearing!). Yes! Jouer is at select Nordstrom stores and is also on Nordstrom's website, which is wonderful. Of course, you cannot go wrong with anything from By Terry and Youngblood as well! Funny you should ask about the TF Vanilla Suede...I didn't buy it the first time around but now that it has reappeared, I keep hearing about it and just may have to pick it up ; ) Will take a peek tomorrow!

xoxo, enjoy the weekend and talk soon,

  4. Hi Rachel, I watched your video and this jouer perfector looks beautiful & like the finish I adore-glowing. However I went on Nordstrom to order & there was 1 review that said does'nt cover anything! I don't usually listen to reviews unless there from you! So I just wanted to ask you if you think I use my LMDB peau vierge first, then the Jouer perfector, will I get the coverage I need? It looks amazing on you & I like the portability of it. I was also thinking it might be a good touch-up to the Kanebo which I cant bring in my purse to work. I thught the finish was close to the jouer. What do you think? Thanks, always appreciate your feedback. :)

    1. Hello Lynn!

I am so glad you enjoyed the video! It definitely depicts a true-to-life moment for me. I had read that the Jouer cream didn't cover much as well, but my first-hand experience proved otherwise. With a damp beauty blender, this builds up to medium/medium-full coverage that still looks like skin! That is the mode of application I recommend!! The portability is a bonus. Some long days, I might wear the Kanebo and then use the Jouer as a touch up if necessary...I find that the formulas work well together ; )

      Hope that helps!!

    2. Thank-you so much. I will go ahead & order it. I will most definitely use it the same...kanebo first & jouer for touch-ups. I bought the beauty blender & evian & love the delivery system as well. I think i'll probably go with #5 in the jouer. They don't carry it in the Nordstrom but I can order on-line & bring back to the store if necessary. I really wish they would bring the whole line in. It seems everyone is on the lumpiness bandwagon, Bobbi Brown re-formulated her luminous foundation which I bought before. Now it contains treatment ingredients. I liked it before but it didn't last long. I hear it has better longevity. Maybe i'll pick up a sample. Ok, I'm off to order the jouer. Thank-you again for your input. Much appreciated! xoxo

    3. But of course, Lynn! I am excited for you to try this and think you will like it, especially with the Beauty Blender + Evian! Since you embrace the sunless tan, I think you'll be happy with #5 as well. Do let me know what you think when you receive it ; )

I hope your week is going well...we've had an amazing trip (recap to come!) and now I am facing a copious amount of laundry!

    4. So glad you had a great trip. Boo to the laundry!! I just wanted to say the chanel blush looks amazing. And using on the lips...genius! We forget how multi-tasking our products can be. I know I do. I also want to say your skin looks flawless. I noticed since I've been using the kanebo samples exclusively & the kanebo foundation, My skin too is so smooth & hydrated. Have you noticed this??? Enjoy whats left of summer. Here on the eastcoast it's like someone flipped a switch & summer is mysteriously gone & the cool temps of fall are looming! :( Have a great end of week.

    5. Regarding my comment above, I meant to say luminess bandwagon, not lumpiness!! haha Hope you got a good laugh though.

    6. Thank you...we got home last night and I am currently in email and laundry mode! Thanks for your sweet words about the blush...the things you think to try when you have five minutes to get ready : ) Thanks also for your compliment about my skin...so encouraging! I have been loving everything that the Kanebo skincare seems to be doing to keep it smooth and clear and balanced. Now I just need to decide which products to officially commit to and integrate into my routine for the long term! I hope you have a lovely rest of the summer as well...I have two weeks before my teaching schedule ramps up to full force and look forward to grabbing a bit more sun in my backyard (while wearing a hat, that is!), going to some events, prepping my syllabi and sleeping in while I still can! I totally knew what you meant with the whole lumpiness/luminess thing...and yes, it did make me smile (in my experience, autocorrect almost always corrects incorrectly!).

Have a lovely weekend and talk soon, dear Lynn...
