Chanel Fall 2013 Lipsticks in Icone and Secret…Video Review and Swatches!

I recently shared my excitement with the Chanel Fall 2013 Creme Blushes and am completing my assessment of the collection by sharing the two lip colors I was compelled to procure.  My video above contains all the pontificating necessary for two shades of lipstick, so I will keep this post succinct and image heavy ; )

I chose:

1. Chanel Rouge Coco in Icone, a sophisticated golden beige.  Not having been a fan of this particular formula in the past, I was surprised at how opaque, hydrating and comfortable this shade is.  It feels “very late 1960’s Catherine Deneuve” and, despite the obscene amount of nude lipsticks in my possession, I do not have anything exactly like this.  I get a respectable 4-6 hours of wear time from Icone…it fades evenly and looks stunning by itself or under something glossy.

2. Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Secret, a translucent peachy pink with a slight shimmer.  This lipstick/lipbalm hybrid is extremely easy to apply, gliding on with a sort of “joie de vivre” that brightens the face effortlessly.  I was pleased with the fact that this shade is more pigmented than other Rouge Coco Shines I’ve swatched…it is sheer with one swipe but builds up to semi-opaque with three swipes. I picked one up for my mom as well and we are both loving applying this liberally without a mirror!

Kindly scroll on for product images, ingredients, swatches and pictures of the lip color on my face…

The following three images depict Icone and Secret on the face both alone and mixed together in various lighting…

Bottom Line:  Icone and Secret are welcome additions to my lipstick collection. Golden beige Icone is immensely opaque and subtly sophisticated and I love the sultry yet demure energy it conveys.  As I said in my video review, it is a wonderful “grown up nude.”  Secret’s peachy pink sheen certainly is not groundbreaking or cutting edge, but the joy and ease with which one can apply and enjoy this shade are undeniable.  It is a perfect option for a quick swath of protective color that can be applied without the constraints of a mirror.  Both shades are delightful and I am happy I bought them…highly recommended!
Did YOU try any lip color from the Chanel Fall 2013 Collection?  Thoughts?!

Hello again,so good to come home from a busy day at work, relax on the couch & check out your blog! I am loving both these shades. I would like to get Icone b/c it looks like the perfect beige I would put under a number of glosses. Right now I use a Mac beige called Pillow talk. It was a limited edition I believe & almost gone. They look great on u together & by themselves. Wanted to update u on the Mally foundation: It stayed well with peau vierge under it at work. Covers well too. However, I'm not sure yet if I'm in love with the finish yet. It is luminous when applied, but I feel it dries down after a bit. that might be good for people who want a more powder finish. It does feel very light though, as it claims to be.I will give it a few more days. should be getting my samples of Kanebo early next week! So excited! Have a great rest of the wkend & I will update u on the Kanebo. xoxo

      Hello Lynn,

I am so happy and honored that my blog can be a part of your relaxation time ; ) I hope you had a lovely weekend! You are right, Icone is a wonderful shade to wear under glosses as it adds just the right amount of beige opacity to the lip. I have seen Pillow Talk in the past…it is lovely and definitely in the same shade family as Icone.

Thanks for the update on the Mally foundation…sometimes a powder finish can be preferred and it is nice to know this one does the job! Can't wait or your Kanebo foundation samples to arrive…I just saw Kimmy at Neimans this weekend and she mentioned that she has been getting all sorts of orders from readers of my blog…crazy!

      Take care and talk soon…xoxo,

hi!!! i recently found your wonderful blog and, i'm so happy!! you are extremely informative and very helpful. i just purchased the e.l.f. small stipple brush, as you suggested, for the creme blushes. i haven't purchased anything yet from chanel's fall collection. i'm a bit weary of the color selections for eyes this year. i'm not sure about putting green around my blue eyes. i wanted your opinion, on my monitor, your eyes look magnificiently blue! i'm going to schedule an appointment with my local chanel artist to put the new colors on. i'm at least 1 or 2 shades lighter than you, i'm very pale but i have alot of pink tone in my skin. i also wanted to know what your wearing on your eyes in this look. i know you mentioned the by terry bronze moon and mystic rock. on my monitor it also looks like you have a lovely darker shade rimming your eyes. i don't have by terry where i live (cincinnati, ohio). i thought i'd call barneys and order them, mentioning your name. thankyou very much for giving me such enjoyment in reading your reviews especially relaxing after a long day at work. wendy from cincinnati, xo.

Hello Wendy! Thanks so much for your comment…I am happy you found your way to my blog!! I appreciate your question about the Chanel colors for my eyes (which are, in almost every light, green)…I tend to go one of three ways when it comes to eye makeup and I warn you now, all three options are quite simple (and look amazing on blue and green eyes)! The first is a black liquid liner-generated cat eye on my upper lid…simple and classic. The next is a taupe or dark purple/Maroon single wash of color (like the By Terry Bronze Moon and Misty Rock Ombreblackstars)…it takes me less than 10 seconds and lasts all day. The last is a bronzy gold shade, often with black liner on my lower lash waterline..I like using the Armani Eyes to Kill in #15 for that look and it tends to be my default "fancy eye." I rarely, if ever, wear greens or blues (especially in shadow form). I highly suggest the By Terry in Bronze Moon for you…it is just an incredible everyday color that I think would look lovely on you!

In turn, I rarely go crazy for eye shadow quads and eye makeup releases in "major colors." I hope that helps!

      xoxo and keep me posted,

So pretty! I never would have thought to try Icone but it's such an interesting yet wearable looking color! I ended up getting the Chanel Cream blush in Destiny and Inspiration which I love though I never would have chosen those if it wasn't for your review…..so now I am thinking I need these two lippies! You sure make shopping easy and fun!!

Thank you, Shoshanna! I am so glad you were able to pick up Destiny and Inspiration and am thrilled that you found my review helpful…those two shades together are killer, no? You just may love these two lip color shades and I also highly recommend the latest from Dior–a lipstick in Gri Gri and a gloss in Charm…will be trying to get a review up this week, but the two shades together make for a perfect mauve-tinged nude pink)!

I hope all is well with you and your family and look forward to talking soon…xoxo,

I can't wait to see the Dior lip products you are reviewing as they don't irritate my sensitive lips generally. Oh yes! Destiny and Inspiration work so well together! Upon first swatching them, I was not so sure. Destiny looked very warm and Inspiration too cool, but together they make such a nice cheek. It's been a while since I have received a compliment on my looks and today, with that combo, I did!! For a new stay-at-home mom of two under two, that says a lot!! YAY!

Hello…thanks and totally understand…as I think I mentioned in my video, I've had some trouble with the Chanel lip formulas in the past, but these two seem to be working!
