Revlon Colorstay and Colorstay Whipped Foundation…Swatches of NC23-NC30 Shades!

Above: A Revlon menagerie…Colorstay Whipped Creme #200, Colorstay #300, Whipped Creme #220, Colorstay #, Colorstay Whipped Creme #320 and Colorstay #310.
My recent fascination with Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Foundation has opened a veritable Pandora’s Box.  The lasting power, flawless finish and kindness to my sensitive skin have made this foundation wondrous discovery for me.  Although, for the past four months, #320 Warm Golden proved to be a perfect match for my NC 25-27, my post-summer and fall skin found has lightened significantly, forcing me to find a paler option.
In turn, after buying a bevy of options in both the Colorstay Whipped and traditional Colorstay foundation family (thank goodness they are extremely affordable), I have settled on #200 Sand Beige to deftly handle my late-winter skin.  This post reveals swatches of all of the Revlon shades I currently own…I would classify these shades in the NC23-NC30 range.
Scroll on for a copious amount of product images, swatches, and foundation on an un-retouched human face ; )

Below: Swatches (from lightest to darkest) of members of the Revlon Colorstay family in the NC23-30 range. Colorstay Whipped #200 Sand Beige is the lightest and Colorstay #310 Warm Golden is the darkest.  Scroll on for shade descriptions…

Above: Swatches in indoor lighting.
1. Colorstay Whipped Creme #200 is a light beige with yellow to neutral undertones (NC23-25).
2. Colorstay Whipped Creme #220 Nude is a light beige with peachy to rosy undertones (NW25)
3. Colorstay Foundation #300 Golden Beige is a light to medium beige with golden yellow undertones (NC 25).
4. Colorstay Whipped Creme #320 Warm Golden is a light to light-medium beige with warm undertones (NC25-27).  **This incarnation of “Warm Golden” is significantly more natural and wearable in terms of undertone than its very peachy, almost orange sister, Colorstay #310 Warm Golden.
5. Colorstay Foundation #310 Warm Golden is a medium beige with very warm undertones (NC 27-30)
Above: Swatches in outdoor light.

Above: The next three images show me wearing Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Foundation #200 in Sand Beige…it does appear to be a perfect match for my wintery NC23 skin!

Bottom Line:  I really like the Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Foundation formula…it provides very natural full coverage that lasts an inordinately long time without feeling uncomfortable or irritating my ultra-sensitive skin.  It rivals some of the most high-end and exclusive foundations that I own (By Terry, Giorgio Armani, SK-II) and is the foundation that I consistently choose when I require a virtually bulletproof performance over the course of a ridiculously long day and night.
I feel it necessary to note that I am much less fond of the overall effect of the traditional Colorstay formula.  Although the shades are reasonable, the scent is rather chemical in nature and my skin feels a bit tight and itchy post-application.  The coverage is remarkable and the finish is polished, but, due to the overall sensation I get during wear, I don’t see myself turning to this on an even semi-regular basis.
Overall, I am still resoundingly pleased with the Colorstay Whipped Creme; it gives my high end foundations significant competition and I am thrilled to have found #200 Sand Beige for the winter months.

Well, I'm a bit gun-shy for I've been burned with drugstore foundations before… but since it's received the Beauty Professor's endorsement, I'm going to give it a shot, and hope it's a match for my light-olive skin.

      Hi She's Chic!

I completely understand your hesitance in slathering a drugstore foundation all over your face, especially if you've had problems in the past. I can assure, I haven't had a single negative reaction to the Revlon Whipped Creme and I've used it for months! I hope you find a perfect match…do let me know what you think!

    Dear Beauty Professor:

First, I think you are absolutely gorgeous

Second, as a young professional, I cannot thank you enough for introducing me to the whipped foundation through your blog. I'm thrilled to have discovered this foundation. I had previously purchased an expensive foundation from sephora praying that it would provide flawless coverage. It did the opposite. After reading your review last year of this product, I decided to give it a try and I'm so happy with the results. I have recommended your blog to many of my friends. Keep up the great reviews.

Thank you for this!! I have the classic Colourstay in Warm Golden, and whilst I love its lasting power and its coverage, I do find it a tad too dark on my skin — like you said, it's almost orange. If I mix it with my Clinique foundation, it compromise on the lasting power. So recently I've been using them together – not mixed, but the lighter Clinique on the inner triangle of my face, the darker Colourstay on the other rim (where most of my acne marks are (read : chin acne) and hence more coverage is needed anyway. The Clinique Super Balance is quite light on coverage, and does not last at all in the tropical climate where I live – after I'm done with this bottle I won't repurchase. The only reason I got it was for when my skin was breaking out pretty badly). Been toying with the idea of buying the CS Whipped for awhile, especially with all the rave reviews online but hesitant about the shade. After reading your very detailed review & swatches I went to get it in Warm Golden. Hopefully it will be JUST NICE. Sorry for the long post, I do find myself rambling on when it comes to make up stuff! Thank you!

      Hi Irene,

My pleasure! If you are finding classic Colorstay in Warm Golden to be a bit dark, then I think that Colorstay Whipped in Warm Golden could be an excellent alternative. I much prefer the Whipped version anyway…the lasting power is better and my skin feels much more comfortable. Please keep me posted on your experience…can't wait to hear about it!

Would you recomend a shade lighter than 200 in the whipped creme foundation for nc20skin?

      Hi Anon,

Thanks for the question. In my experience, #200 is very good for NC 20-23 skin…to be fair, I haven't tried any Revlon shades lighter than this, but I am in the NC 20-23 range right now and it is perfect!

      Hope that helps…xo,

Hi, I use Revlon colorstay in sand beige and have recently changed to the whipped crème in the same colour. It seems to be a tad lighter. I'd like to go a shade darker, one with yellow undertones. Any suggestions would be appreciated 🙂 Cheers Julie.

      Hello Julie,

That is a tough one because the next shade up is Nude #220 and it doesn't really have yellow undertones! The next shade beyond that does have yellow undertones is Warm Golden (#320) and it is what I wear in the summer and fall when I am a bit darker. I would suggest that, and if you have to mix the two (as I do sometimes), at least you'll be able to control the depth and also maintain the right undertone.

      Hope that helps!

      xoxo,

Hi Beauty Professor, I discovered your blog today and have been looking at it for hours (thanks for cheering up my day, I am in bed with a cold, but been having fun with your blog!). I also am a foundation-a-holic, and wanted to recommend to you the Revlon Naked Foundation. Have you tried it? Until I tried this one, I hated drugstore foundations also! But it gives a smoothy, creamy finish with medium coverage that lasts all day & doesn't settle in pores or get too oily. It's one of my favorites! My other favorite foundations are the YSL Touche Eclat foundation & the Koh Gen Do Moisture Foundation, but this Revlon one is just as (well maybe almost as good as) these at a fraction of the price. I do hate the packaging, with no pump, however. Now I will have to try the Revlon Whipped foundation – thanks for the rec!

Thanks for your comment! I am so glad you found your way to my blog and love that you share my passion for foundation ; ) I appreciate the mention of the Revlon Naked Foundation. I haven't yet tried it but should so soon, based on your recommendation. That is amazing that you rank it amongst the YSL and KGD Moisture foundation…incredible! I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the Colorstay Whipped!

Hope your are feeling better now…xoxo,

Beauty Professor- I have heard such great things about the Colorstay Whipped foundation and really want to try it. I'm having trouble picking the correct shade. I have found your site very helpful, but I still need clarification on the shades offered. Which shades have a yellow undertone-the ones that end in 00 (for ex. #200)? I saw on another site that the Warm Golden 320 has a pinkish undertone, so does that hold true that shades ending in 20 all have pinkish undertones. Can you clarify this. Thanks.

Hello D Zielinski/Anon (I am guessing both comments above are yours),

In my experience, I haven't found that Warm Golden has a pinkish undertone…in fact, it has the most yellow undertones of the light-medium shade offerings. #200 is a neutral light beige…less yellow than #320, but also lighter. It is the shade I wear in this formula when Warm Golden is too dark (and I have yellow undertones!).

      I hope that helps!

Happy to help…if you are NC 20, I would suggest the Sand Beige as Golden Beige is better for NC 25 or so.

      Hope that helps!
