By Terry Ombre Blackstar Melting Eyeshadow in Misty Rock

I bought By Terry Ombre Blackstar Melting Eyeshadow in Misty Rock last year…at the time, I didn’t have any idea how invaluable this shadow stick would be to my morning routine.  My love of the By Terry line is significant; from lip color to foundation, this brand features rich pigmentation and pure quality.  I am happy that I branched out into By Terry eye products!
Here is what the web says about this unique eye shadow…
A creamy melt-away eyeshadow that enhances the eyes with an ultra-glossy long-hold shaping film.
Its smoothing, “infinitely” stretchable texture is available in six adjustable and buildable shades for impeccably madeup eyelids! Tahitian Black Pearl, rich in calcium, trace elements and pearl proteins, present in the form of micronized powder, smoothes and enhances the eyelid. Its reshaping properties provide a rejuvenating “lifting light” effect. Thanks to adhesive polymers, the formula boasts double even-toning and color-fixing action for infallible hold.

Above: I love the retractable nature of this shadow…no need for a sharpener or brush.  I apply this to my lids, directly from the tube.
Retailing for $43, this eye shadow stick is encased in a luxe gold cylinder…a simple twist of the end and the shadow is revealed. Misty Rock #5 is a satiny thistle/plum that somehow has a neutral vibe, even if it is technically a member of the “purple family.”  The texture of this shadow is incredibly silky.  It glides on smoothly, without tugging and creates full opacity with a single layer.  Even though there is a shimmery quality, it catches light without being the slightest bit “glittery” and there is absolutely no migration or fallout over time.
The lasting power is also remarkable.  I can apply this in haste (without primer) at 7 AM and it is still creaseless and going strong at 9:30 PM without a single touchup.  I find it similar to one of my other favorite formulas, Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill, in terms of texture and longevity.

Bottom Line: The By Terry Ombre Blackstar Melting Eye Shadow in Misty Rock #5 is a delight!  I love this silky, non-creasing, long lasting formula so much that I recently purchased it in Bronze Moon, a warm shimmering taupe that goes with everything (review soon!).  Highly recommended!

Good to hear from you, Lipstick Boulevards! Thanks for your sweet words ; ) I keep hearing excellent things about the LM Caviar Sticks, but haven't tried them yet…may have to take a peek soon. I've seen the BT OBS in Frozen Quartz…it's lovely.

Have a wonderful rest of the week!

This is gorgeous and it's such a unique color! I didn't expect it to be so pigmented! I'll have to take a look at these!

Thank you, Paintedladybeauty! I didn't expect such opacity either…it is one of the easiest ways to achieve a full eye look in all of 10 seconds. The manner in which I "push the limits" in the morning makes ever second count, so I use this a lot ; )

      Have a lovely weekend!!

Sounds amazing. Did you ever get to compare this to LM's Caviar Sticks? I really love the Caviar Sticks but they do seem a little heavy on the lid.

      Hi Jillian,

Thanks for your comment…yes, this is one of my favorite eye shadow options ever!! I tried the LM Caviar Sticks a couple of months ago and returned them…the lasting power was not great and I found there to be creasing and a slightly greasy feeling…not good, at least for me! The By Terry goes on like silk but sets very quickly and stays all day…I just bought my second tube of Bronze Moon #4. It's that good!

    Hi Beauty Professor,

Every time I look for opinions & swatches about By Terry products I end up here…and I love it! Thank you for this blog, it's like a huge database!

The other day I was about to purchase a By Terry Ombre Blackstar eyeshadow and I didn't know which color to choose… so I entered Misty Rock in Google and I saw your pictures, and it was enough for me to decide. It's gorgeous! I'm gonna try it tomorrow, but since I have brown eyes, I don't know if it's gonna look on me as good as it looks on you… I hope so!

You have a new follower from Spain! I'll continue reading you more often from now on!

    XOXO,

    Sara

Sure I will comment on your blog more from now on! 🙂 I might send you a picture some of these days. So far I'm loving this eyeshadow, it's enough for me to get a pretty look without so much effort! I actually love how it flatters me because the eyeshadow that looks the best on me is MAC Satin Taupe, so thought this would flatter me as well. And I also found the quality pretty amazing! Now I'm thinking about getting some more such as Bronze Moon or Blond Opal… I'll let you know!

I live in the north-west part of Spain! It's a beautiful place but it's always raining. Here we are quite lucky because you can find the By Terry products a bit less expensive than in the US, since it's an european brand… But in general all the other brands are way more expensive here! 🙁

      XOXO,

      Sara

      Hello Sara,

That's good news ; ) I am so glad that you are enjoying the eyeshadow (I suspected you would!) and highly suggest Bronze Moon (a very wearable bronze taupe)…it is my absolutely favorite. Where you live sounds absolutely lovely…my family lineage includes Castillian Spaniards so I have a special place in my heart for the country, even though I've never visited and they immigrated to America nearly 100 years ago. What a treat to be able to buy By Terry products at a more reasonable price…enjoy that luxury!

      xoxo and talk soon,

Hi, thanks for your review. I'm desperate to get Bronze Moon (shade number 4 I think) but they seem to be out of stock everywhere here, so I'm looking into other colours. May I ask, how do you apply it? Do you blend it after with a brush, use your fingers…or just swipe and leave it as is? Thanks x

      Hello Anon,

Thanks for the question…first off when it comes to tracking down Bronze Moon, I suggest contacting your local Space NK store directly, as they get shipments in all of the time and can often fulfill an order more quickly than ordering online. Also, I like to apply this directly from the crayon and just use my fingers to blend it out slightly…no brush necessary!

I hope that helps…xo and take care,

Hi, I don't know if you read comments on past posts (love the blog by the way.I'm in academia as well). Just purchased 3 of these (the colors are beyond gorgeous), and the Barneys saleswoman said they were really hard to remove (which I had heard before), but I was not willing to spend $60 on their eye makeup remover. So my question is, what do you use to remove it? Thanks!

      Hello Anon

Thanks for your kind words…what do you teach? Congrats on your new Ombre Blackstars…you won't regret getting them! I just use Ivory soap in the shower or a traditional makeup remover (like my favorite, Koh Gen Do Spa Water) to remove these. They are extremely long lasting but not terribly difficult to remove when you're ready ; )

Thanks so much for replying! I'm so glad I didn't spend the $60 for the house remover! I'm really looking forward to wearing these. I'm in cognitive psych. 🙂
