IMATS Los Angeles Recap!!

Above: My first, of hopefully many, IMATS!

Above: We started our day at around 11 AM…I made sure to wear flat boots in anticipation of the walking in store for us!

A couple of weekends ago, my mom (who also happens to be my best friend and blog assistant!) and I attended IMATS Los Angeles (International Makeup Artist Trade Show), held at the Pasadena Convention Center.  It was truly a feast for the eyes, filled with niche brands, special effects makeup, demonstrations and more body paint than I ever thought possible.

I will let the follow images speak for themselves…

Above: I ran into the very sweet Courtney (www.Phyrra.net) who was working at the BFTE mineral makeup booth for the weekend.

Above: I was entranced by the demonstration for Fantabulash, a lash adhesive tape that is designed to take the place of traditional false lash glue.  It is intended to keep your lashes cleaner, longer and is also great for anyone who has a glue allergy (like it’s creator, above, had).

Above: I was drawn into the orb of the Lise Watier line (sold at the Naimie’s Beauty Supply booth)…this French-Canadian line boasts impressive pigmentation and reasonable pricing.  Two lipsticks and three eyeliners later…

Above: One example of the special effects makeup demonstrations taking place at every corner.  I’m thinking about trying this look for work.

Above: Melanie Mills, creator of Gleam, and me.  Ms. Mills is known for concocting the body shimmer that is heavily relied upon on the Dancing with the Stars set.  I bought a lovely peachy pink lip gloss which I will review soon!

Above: The folks at the Cailyn Gel Eyeliner booth…I was sold by the demonstration (the woman applied some of the liner and then rubbed her hand incessantly…no budging whatsoever).  I bought the black version and couldn’t be happier.  Review soon!

Above: Me with the effervescent Brett Freedman, founder of the Vanitymark line…I picked up a lipbalm for my husband (it is both sweet and minty…he’s happy) and a mango gloss for me…review soon1.

Above: Girl on very tall stilts…this was one of the more “normal” things I saw at the show ; )

Above: Taking a break halfway through the day…makeup staying in place.
Above: Resting our feet…flat boots can only do so much!
Above: While resting, I happened to run into the charming Talia Joy Castellano, who is a YouTube makeup tutorial sensation!
Above: Famed Makeup Artist Kevin James Bennett and me.

Above: Another everyday look in the land of IMATS.

Above: Is this outfit considered, “work appropriate?”
Above: Me and the living mannequin at the MAC Pro booth…this trooper had been standing there since 7AM (it was already 3PM at this point) and politely confided to me that his back was beginning to hurt.

Above: Wizard of Oz, anyone?

Above: My lovely mom and I.

Above: Makeup stayed put for the entire day…Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Foundation still never ceases to amaze me.

Above: For dinner, we stopped at El Cholo Cafe, which was serendipitously right across the street…this chicken quesadilla was to die for.

Above: Nothing like some ambrosial fried ice cream to properly conclude an amazing day.

Above:  Thanks for a brilliant experience, IMATS!
How about YOU…have you ever attended an IMATS or something similar? Thoughts?!
Above: A teaser of some of my IMATS purchases and their corresponding swatches.  Close ups and reviews in the very near future!

When I met you and your mom I was sure you had brought a friend. She is not only a beauty but she's so young looking. She seems to sweet too. I wish I'd had more time to talk with you both. Next time for sure.

I love the Cailyn things I bought. Asi in your picture was such a charmer. He talked me into a lot and I'm so happy with it all.

Thanks for sharing your great photos. It was like being there again but my feet didn't hurt this time!!

      Hi Marcia,

That is so wild that you didn't know she was my mom…I agree, however, she is super young looking and so lovely. She is a wonderful mom, too! I am so blessed ; ) I wish we'd had more time to visit with you as well…our mutual love of makeup (and especially, pale lip color) would lend to endless conversation!

I am glad you got some Cailyn products too! I really enjoyed interacting the Asi and his sister. Did you buy the lip stain or just stick with the liner? I am loving the black…it is so easy to apply. The only liner lately that is rivaling its lasting power is the latest installment from LMdB (a deep blue called Artemis)…I put my liquid liner through an intense 10 hours of wear when teaching, so it has to last : )

Thanks for your sweet words about my photos…I took so many; it was with great trepidation that I edited them down to the one's I posted.

Have a splendid weekend and talk soon!

      xoxo,

I used to live in Pasadena, just a 5 min drive from the IMATS. Now I live in Canada and the Toronto IMATS just aren't quite the same. 🙁

Just wondering what you had on your lips in the pics? Gorgeous!!

      Hello Michy!

Thanks for stopping by! The Pasadena IMATS was indeed a wonderland! Interesting that the Toronto IMATS feels different…is it smaller? Different brand representation?

In response to your sweet question, I am wearing a combination of three products that are staples in my purse: Tom Ford lip color in Nude Vanille and Pink Dusk with a bit of Tom Ford gloss in Naked on top…definitely expensive, but wholly worth it for the nude lip I strive for ; ) What are some lip colors you currently reach for?

      Have a lovely weekend…xoxo,

Great! Thanks for letting me know. Now I have to add to my list of goodies to purchase the next time I'm in the States. I tend to go shopping in Michigan fairly often and there's a Saks that carries Tom Ford. 🙂

To answer your question, no there isn't the same brand representation at the Toronto IMATS (smaller) and just not quite the same "energy". Oh and it's bloody cold here! lol.

      I miss Cali. 🙁

      Hi Michy,

Of course! Enjoy your Tom Ford goodies when you get them and beware…the line is utterly addicting (unless, of course, you already know this because you have other Tom Ford products!).

Interesting that there is such a significant difference at the Toronto IMATS…I guess that makes sense since it is dealing with vendors more centralized to the area.

Hope you get to come back to good old California soon ; )

Take care and have a wonderful rest of the week….xoxo,
