Youngblood Blushes and Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

Two of the three Youngblood Crushed Mineral Blushes (Tulip not pictured)  whose proceeds will go towards cancer research during the moth of October.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Because it comes around every year, it is easy to dismiss the campaign as a celebration of all things pink, without really understanding the gravity of the cause.  According to www.breastcancer.org, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime.  That is a sobering 12% of all women.  The good news, however, is that research conducted by the American Cancer Association reveals that there are over 2.9 million breast cancer survivors (with my grandma being one of them!) and incidents of death by breast cancer have gone down in the past decade thanks to advancements in research and early detection.  The statistics surrounding this terrible disease make it likely that many have been affected by breast cancer in one way or another…finding ways to continue to fight it is essential! I am pleased to announce that Youngblood Cosmetics is partnering with Dr. Susan Love for the month of October to raise money for breast cancer research.

In its ongoing support of national Breast Cancer Awareness month, Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics will donate to the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation a portion of its proceeds from sales of Crushed Mineral Blush ($22.00 MSRP; 0.10 oz)  in Dusty Pink, Sherbet  and TulipFounded in 1996, Youngblood is the premier brand for the finest mineral cosmetics. Products are made without talc, oil, parabens, artificial fragrances or dyes. The Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation is an organization that works to eradicate breast cancer, and improve the quality of women’s health through innovative
research, education and advocacy. “Dr. Susan Love and her team stand for many of the same principles our company upholds, including not testing on animals,” says President and CEO, Pauline Youngblood, who is a breast cancer survivor herself. “We admire their vision and are proud to support them in their goals.”

Crushed Mineral Blush is highly pigmented to give cheeks and temples a natural-looking flush with buildable coverage. The loose minerals can also be used on eyes and lips. The three shades work on all skin tones: Dusty Pink is a sweet shell pink; Sherbet is a gold-laced pink-peach (and a top seller); and Tulip is a sheer baby doll pink.  “Sales of the three shades of Crushed Mineral Blush will help Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation continue its important mission of finding an end to this disease,” adds Pauline. Proceeds of Dusty Pink, Sherbet  and Tulip  will be donated beginning October 1, 2012, and are found at ybskin.com; NewBeauty at Fred Segal in Santa Monica, California; Henri Bendel in New York; select spas and salons; and by calling (800) 216-6133.

Above L-R: Youngblood Crushed Mineral Blush in Sorbet and Dusty Pink.
I was privileged to try the Youngblood Crushed Mineral Blush in Sherbet and Dusty Pink.  Retailing for $22, these shades are both fairly pale pinks, while still possessing excellent pigmentation.  This is perfect for me since I tend to use a heavy hand with blush application when I am not being careful! In turn, I always choose pale pinks so overapplying is not an issue ; )
The ingredients, as always, are minimal and respectful of sensitive skin issues.
Sherbet is a pale peachy pink with perceptible shimmer…it often receives comparisons with NARS Orgasm, though I think it has more pigment and a touch less shimmer, making it a preferable shade and formula for me!
I am wearing Sherbet on my right cheek (over a touch of bronzer)…the shimmer adds a bit of dimension and a beautiful sheen, especially in the sun (which was a bit finicky when I was taking pictures outside!).
Dusty Pink is a highly pigmented pale pink without shimmer…it is matte without looking the slightest bit chalky and reminds me a bit of a paler, less violet version of Edward Bess blush in Soft Orchid.
I am wearing Dusty Pink on my left cheek (over a touch of bronzer).  It adds a lovely flush that looks quite natural.

This blush is extremely finely milled…this makes it blend into the skin effortlessly and lends to its long lasting staying power.  I apply it over a touch of Rouge Bunny Rouge Bronzer (for warmth and contour) on the apples of my cheeks with my Sephora retractable blush brush (featured in the top image in this post).   I love how glowing and natural these blushes are…since receiving them, I have had one or the other in my makeup bag all week because they give a lovely pop of color to make me seem awake in the morning and refresh my skin’s brightness as a late-afternoon touch up.  Because they are sheer yet pigmented, only a bit is necessary to achieve a delicately rosy complexion!

Images above and below…I am wearing Dusty Pink on my left cheek and Sherbet on my right cheek.  The colors are similar from far away, but up close (click on image to enlarge), Sherbet is clearly lighter, sheerer and more shimmery in nature!
Bottom Line: Yet another quality product from the Youngblood brand! The Crushed Mineral Blush is sheer, yet highly pigmented, long lasting and friendly to the most sensitive of skin types.  I love the natural glow that Sherbet and Dusty Rose yield and envision myself using this versatile blush along side my favorites from Sunday Riley (Blushing), Edward Bess (Soft Orchid) and Rouge Bunny Rouge (Delicata and Starina).  If you have been thinking about trying the Youngblood Crushed Mineral Blush, I highly recommend it and, in light of their current partnership with the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, OCTOBER is the month to buy it!

I was also able to test two of the blushes, and I was happy to be able to see what the Dusty Pink looked like. I love the blushes and am so glad that Youngblood donates to such a great cause! x
